I will never purchase an IBM product again

#1 Post by Reshesnik » Mon Jul 26, 2004 11:04 pm

I am happy with Bill Morrow's service, and the T42 I received is excellent, though it could use some more ram ;)

I originally purchased a T40p from IBM in late May. After seeing the 2373-3VU offer, I returned it for a refund, and purchased the T42 through Bill. Unfortunately, IBM double charged me for my T40p, and after two months they have confirmed that they have received the return, but they have given me the run around on giving me a refund. I currently have over $6500 in thinkpad related charges on my credit card. I am over my limit, and have been charged over $100 in finance charges. Every time I call them, they assure me that the refund will post in a few more days.

Now, after two months I have been forced to bring a lawyer into this, costing me hundreds of dollars more. All I can say is, regardless of their quality, I will never purchase another IBM product from any source. I know this won't sway any hardcore thinkpad owners, but just figured I'd throw it out there :)

Wow, sorry to hear.

I'm about to return mine as well and need the funds for a trip. Hope they don't screw me over.

A simple telephone call to your credit card company explaining the situation and challenging the charges from IBM should result in NO interest or other charges for the amount in contention.

No attorney necessary.

Please don't say you are returing your TP to pay for your trip. What is the problem with your TP that is making you return it?

I have had almost the exact same experience, however, I see no reason to bring a lawyer into the mix.
I also bought a T40p, then returned it to get a 3VU from Bill, and have yet to receive my refund from IBM after about 8 weeks.

Most credit cards only require you to dispute the charge in writing and they will not charge finance charges. I have a form on the back of my credit card statement for this. I would definitely call the credit card company and ask them the procedure for disputing the charges.

That's completely abnormal!

Whom have you contacted at IBM? Have you asked that the matter be escalated?

My CC is giving me problems as well, so I've been kinda pushed into bringing a lawyer into the mix. I know this will be sorted out eventually, and God willing in my favor, but what a pain in the butt! I never thought IBM would be so difficult to deal with!

I have had this call escalated with IBM 3 times now! I have the name at home (in the office now). They are always helpful, but they have consistently failed to show me any results! Argh.

To make matters worse, I grabbed a dimm from the local ram shack ;) and of course it causes my system to hang. Well, I suppose I'll have to order from Kingston for $169, which completely sucks because IBM sells for 150, but I made a promise I intend to keep :)
