Anyone remember the aftermarket Gel like trackpoint caps?

#1 Post by tselling » Thu Apr 20, 2006 4:15 pm

I was wondering if there was a company still making the very flexible Gel like trackpoint caps. Not for my thinkpad... but for my Dell D600 that work makes me use. I hate the cap that it comes with... but the IBM caps won't fit. Hoping to find a better one with an aftermarket company.

Don't remember the gel caps, and that's too bad that the TP ones won't work. I didn't like the cap that came with my work-supplied HP, either. I was lucky that the TP Softdome fits. Made a lot of different.

I managed to find this

http://martigny.ai.mit.edu/hypermail/th ... /0119.html

and this

http://martigny.ai.mit.edu/hypermail/th ... /0156.html

Here is the Website; see

I vaguely remember hearing about these folks from some of my friends, but I grew used to the IBM-provided Trackpoints and didn't use the Trackpoint on anything other than a Thinkpad much at all; so I had little need for the. I can, however, see that these would be pretty good on most systems that don't have a trackpoint as well engineered as the IBM Thinkpads. In those cases, I ended up either dealing with the touchpad or using an external mouse if there was enough room.

Maybe I should think about getting some of these for just that purpose.

those look very similar to the convex dome "bumpy" ibm caps. They have a nice rubbery feel.

they sent me a sample that kept falling off the post..

when i mentioned it they got pissy..

what it was was that their sample cap was too short..
either through an error or intentionally thats what i got..

Great, thanks all. I just ordered their type 2 for my Dell Latitude D600. Looks like the right size even though they don't list that particular model. Only sold in a six pack but for $10 + $5 shipping its not too bad. They are supposedly new and improved.
