New IBM 730T

#1 Post by mark5 » Thu Apr 20, 2006 10:39 pm

Hi Group Members

Just though ide give you all an update on the IBM730T
Well i went out and got a nother one and it in much better
Shape then the first one. witch only had a 105MB HDD that
Boted to a C:\ only and there was not much i could do .

Now here something i dont understand i can put the 105
With win95 in to my HP and reed the hard drive and even
Add files but the new 105 with win pen 3.1 i can not even
Get the HP to see the drive , anye help with that problem
Wood be nice.

So we went looking on good old e-bay and found one that
I must say is in verry good shape and it has Windows For
Pen 3.1 with IBM DOS 6.3 i belive it boot rather fast so
It hard to tell it also came with the carring case and a
IBM Credit Card Adapter Ethernet II card and 2 Batters
That seem to work ok .

I was thinking of removing win95 from the
Other HD and just makeing a back up copy of the win 3.1
And DOS 6.0 what do you all think of that i'm still looking
For a Port Replicator and more memory .

Thank Mark5

Here's something interesting. You might try and see if you can find one of the specially adapter cases the State Farm Insurance had made for their field agents/adjusters, etc. It was a "Halliburton" style case with hardware identical to the alluminum ones, but with a fiberglass body instead. Inside was a port replicator with a "snap-in" stand, plus a Kodak Diconics printer built in as well! Very cool and interesting. I saw some a few years ago in Bloomington, IL and occassionally on ebay.

Hey Schen, thanks for the info...though you were responding to the OP, I have one as well. I might try to track these items down for my 730T.

I am actually trying to get a 2-5gb type II PCMCIA hard drive, and see if it works in the 730T. If it doesn't, I am just going to use it in lieu of a large thumb drive for my laptops.

I just think those PCMCIA HDDs are neat little devices. Some years back, before the age of USB Thumbdrives and DVD burners everywhere, I bought an IBM Options branded 40Mb one to use with my 701, to put big presentations on etc. At least that's what I told myself! Mostly it was because I thought that it was just cool! I guess, you could call them the forerunner to the Microdrive (of which I also have one of to use in my digital camera).

Anyway, good luck on that. I think the biggest one I ever messed with was the 105Mb version. Of, by the way, if you need a case for your 730T, I have one of those too (don't ask). At least I think it's for the 730 and not the earlier pen machines. I'll have to admit that I almost bought the case with the printer when I saw it, even though I didn't own a 730T! :D

Actually, they're the direct forerunner to the HDDs used in iPods. And, the direct forerunner to the HDDs found in the ThinkPad X40, X41, and X41T.

They've just changed the interface pinout (not even the interface - PCMCIA for flash cards and hard drives is merely IDE) for those drives.

If I am not mistaken, the HDDs in the X4X Series are the same ones that were in the larger iPods of the previous generation.

I meant that they changed the interface pinout from the PCMCIA ones. ;)
