Wooden computers!

Although there are several problems, including wear (the mice and keyboards would get really slimy), different thermodynamic behaviour (the cooling might very well turn into a nightmare if you wanted a low-profile slim-line case), and EM emissions control.

Still, some of them look pretty good. :)

I like that first tower case. However, I think I would be afraid of damaging it! :D

Being a cat and dog owner, I can say none of those wood parts would last in my house. They'd be gone faster than you can say "scratching post." However, I really do like that one tower case with the windows in the side.

Having much fun on this, are we? ;)

Well, I did do a deep search and came up with some fragments here and there; mainly pictures, the pictures were nice and they did show stuff like a dual 8" persci drive that had a good-looking all wood cabinet. From what I hear, NorthStar did that as well with the early Horizons. Apple, obviously, had a few models in wood as well. :)

Yes! My second "computer", circa 1980, was a North Star Horizon S-100 system and it had a wood case lid on a rugged aluminium chassis. There's also another photo here!

It was a great S-100 chassis which lived through several S-100 motherboard replacements (as the technology developed). It was eventually passed on to an associate in some deal or other and was last seen acting as the enclosure for a RAID disk array!

The SOL systems from the same era also used wood extensively for cosmetic effect.

Cheers,

Bill
