Far too late and the minions in Praha have already sold you down the river!Puppy wrote:I would vote for elimination of EU.
I lived in Europe during the time when the "Europa Unie" folks were first rearing their heads and flexing their newfound political muscle (~'68-'71). The acrimony that resulted at the time just among my extended family in UK, DK, NO, DE and FR was mind boggling, nevermind the (literal) fistfights and punchups that would break out in the "local" or local Rathaus. An EU sticker on the back of your car could get you a broken windshield in St. Germain!
But, never forget that the EU promised everyone that NO new taxes would result from its formation!
Of course, that was before they began to take steps to form their own Navy, Air Force and standing Army.
Next thing you know CZ will no longer be an "officlally recognized" language.

Won't happen... most likely just a rumor like the one that surfaces in the US every single year without fail.
It would be near impossible to do... they COULD try to tax it, but I can run my own SNMP server just as easily... if they block, or just monitor SNMP traffic, I could tunnel through SSH... no matter what, I've got it covered.
Just won't happen. It's not fesable. If they attempt it, the EU will be bombarded with US companies who will for nothing or low cost provide tax-free email.

Yep, it will happen. It is the EU and bureaucratic idiots in Brussels. Remember, that they forced the state of Brandenburg (which is where Berlin is situated) to comply with EU laws release and fully implement laws about public transportation in funiculars. Brandenburg has been the only German state without that law.DIGITALgimpus wrote:Won't happen... most likely just a rumor like the one that surfaces in the US every single year without fail.

The reason was, Brandenburg is as flat as the Netherlands. Funiculars are used to be found in Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland. (For funiculars you are supposed to have a mountain or at least a hill). Crazy!
Now, those German state prime ministers recently agreed on a law that internet capable computers are some kind of new TV set. (NO JOKE!). You will have to register your equipment pay TV fees.
Having DSL and internet will cost you about 210 EUR TV fee and another EUR 200 for Dt. Telekom and provider fees.
In total 410 EUR a year, just for internet.
Have your own business? You pay twice, total costs as a private and another one as freelancer/self-employed.
THAT IS NO JOKE. It will start on Jan.1, 2007
France, Austria and UK are already checking out these possibilities for fee rasing.
Welcome to good old Europe.

hope for europe..? none at all, it seems..Lamassoure is a member of Chirac's UMP and sits with the centre-right EPP-ED grouping in the European Parliament. If a centre-right group entertains ideas to stifle new technology with taxation, what hope is there for Europe?
leave it to the french socialist state to tax anything they can so as to support the french socialist state.. or ANY socialist state..
there is no tax that a government won't try to collect..
for instance, a local cat has adopted us, here in MARTIN COUNTY, florida..
i live on some acreage and thus many local fauna inhabit my property..
from fancy rats to large gopher tortises to the occasional confused alligator..
well, this CAT has an open sore on his nose and i wanted him to at lease be healthy, so my wife too him to the vet for shots, treatment for his nose and to be sure his male equipment was non-functional in a kitten sort of way..
a month later comes a letter in the mail..
i am now billed for this cat $10..!
from the local tax collector..
so, i see, in the future a tax on the internet..
why not, they want to tax a stray cat and my shadow, why not tax electrical impulses along a glass fiber or copper wire..?
