Repair observations at Best Buy

#1 Post by Bob Collins » Sun Aug 08, 2004 10:28 am

Just a curiosity to me. I was in Best Buy yesterday with a failing JVC DVD player. While talking to the techie I noticed all manner of computers and notebooks which were in for repair/upgrades/etc. Very curious and interesting was that all brands/labels of manufacturer were present EXCEPT IBM products. I was quite happy to see that there were no IBMs. In all, I could see about 50-60 machines.

Just an obtuse observation of mine....;-)

Guess we all have great machines!

I wouldn't take my precious IBM to BB if they paid me! The few times I've gone into one and asked an employee for assistance, they can't tell their heads from their asses

I haven't had any experience with "Solectron", but i doubt theyre any worse than BB. Luckily I haven't had any problems with mine that would require I RMA it, but if I do, I will be taking it to my local service center (I know a few people that work there, they know what theyre doing)

I doubt that Best Buy is an IBM-authorized repair center hence the lack of TPs there for repair.

Nonny, quite a good point, I did not even think of it like that. I guess I assume, most likely incorrectly, that as similar with BMWs (I am an owner and pilot of one) sometimes people have nice equipment and do not necessarily do the right thing for repairs.....

I can offer however the telephone tech support for my T22 was excellent and quick. I had a CMOS battery go south on me. They sent a new one and it arrived the next day. Also they knew what to do to troubleshoot it was the battery and nothing else odd.

Never had use for any tech support places like BB, CompUSA, or otherwise as I take care of my own.

Cheers
