Symantec subscription renewal

#1 Post by hominoidea » Wed Aug 11, 2004 1:35 am

Ok. The thing is my Norton Antivirus says its subscription will end in a few weeks from now. I take it that if I don't pay the 20€/$ for subscription renewal I'm all out of protection from new viruses. I was genuinely surprised since it's been, what, 2 months when I bought this laptop and I thought this antivirus software would be included in the prize. Or atleast a lot more longer.

Now I'm turning in to you guys for confirmation. Should I pay and stick with this (Norton Antivirus 2003) or is there other options?

You could try AVG which is a free antivirus program - I've been testing it at work since I heard about it here and it seems to be fine. Just Google AVG and you'll find it.

I second Ian's suggestion - AVG works much better in my opinion.

The NAV shipped with TPs has a 90 day subscription - after that you have to pay to get the updates etc.

No great loss as far as I am concerned - NAV seems very bloated and can cause more problems than it solves.

Give AVG a bash - you wont be disappointed.

You can also look at upgrading to 2004 which includes a year of subscriptions. Though I would take a look at alternatives too.

i've been using AVG since version 4.x and haven't looked back.   updates are free and you can buy a two-year license for about $35.

AVG has found new viruses on some of my clients' computers which already had norton corporate installed.   that fact alone sells most people on the switch.

The AVG is then worth atleast the try and I can forget the Norton for now. Thanks for the replies all.

As a matter of fact I have a student licence for McAfee and use it on my desktop, but I'm a bit iffy about it.
