Handheld to go w/ my T60 ?

#1 Post by guYom » Sat Jul 22, 2006 11:13 am

Hi ThinkPaders,

Any recommandations for a PDA w/ bluetooth to easily synch with my T60 Outlook contacts and an integrated wireless WIFI to surf the Web and get my eMail?

What's a good companion for the T60? What do you use?

If possible under 300 USD...

Thanks for your suggestions and sharing your experience.

I use a Palm TX. Can be bought for 250 on the internet, or 300 from Palm with a free 512MB card. It has Bluetooth and Wifi for syncing with your Thinkpad, and runs pretty fast.

Easy choice.... I use an X60s....

Seriously, I've tried them all and I got tired of carrying so many devices, buggy sync issues, batteries to charge, Palm vs Pocket PC/Windows Mobile, no suitable (fast) input method, bulky etc.

My X60s, thin, flat, instant on (standby) 2.6lbs just pop it into my briefcase, backpack, whatever and get on with it. Just 2 devices X60s & RAZR. For superlight travel, I have my schedule, contacts etc in RAZR and all data in my new U3 Sandisk Cruzer 2GB Titanium USB Flashdrive.... :D

PPC 6700. Mine is from Sprint but the same model is available with a few carriers. Very capable little device and EVDO in most cities now...so high speed internet access everywhere. You can get it for under $300 but only with a new contract.

I agree with archer6, however, I have my X41 with me much more then I thought I would (I found a really nice Tumi small briefcase that is great on the run) so my 6700 doesn't get as much use as it used to.

If I could justify buying one other than just to play with, I'd get a Palm Tungsten E2. Under $150 'open box' from Palm or Overstock. A couple weeks ago both sites had an additional 10% off too.
now: X61, T42p
before: 600E, T23, X20, T40, X40, X31, T60
FS: Travel Bezel, 100GB drive (OEM Lenovo)

I use a Palm Tungsten T. Bluetooth sync works perfectly, as does email via cellphone (bluetooth again). But for Wifi you'll need the newer TX model.
Current: T60p (2007-93G). Previous: T23 (2647-9LG).

I'm using a Dell axim x51v. Has wifi but lacks a phone. You can use Skype if you are on wifi though.

Works flawlessly. Connects and syncs via bluetooth. :D

I don't know exactly what your needs are, but I use a Blackberry 8700g. syncs with Outlook and can send data over bluetooth. Also can double as a modem.

Amazon had a great deal on this phone a couple weeks back. Not sure what it would be now.

I'm using a Treo 650 - but I don't think it's the absolute best. In most cases, my experience has been convergence devices does the job of a phone and a pda equally bad.

I'm thinking the newest blackberry device is where i am heading. The interim solution, for me, is a Razor V3. At least it does the job of being a phone well. In my perfect world - a convergence device would be the size of the Palm Vx.

I am using a IPAQ 6315. Not a good choice though. It has various problems but I managed to make it stable. It serves me well. The 6315 is both a phone and a PDA, by the way.

Thanks all for your input.

Well I think I'll stick to my current Motorola E815 bluetooth phone for access to my contacts, it synchs well via bluetooth with my Outlook data in my T60. Next time when I update my phone I'll look into those more sophisticated phones / PDA.
