The car is stock except for the lightshow, noise makers and radios. It tops out at 120.. I generally wimp out at 110. But only been there once... on the NY State Thruway on a very LLLOOONNNGGGGG straigh-away.

I am a 911 Dispatcher and Deputy EMS Coordinator (3rd in command) for my county. So when there is something on EMS with some "hair on it" I respond for my area. Yes chicks dig the lights and stuff... but the wife doesn't always appreciate it.

I have been in emergency services for 15 years. So I have seen the block just about once by now.

A video... http://www.k2jsv.com/jaymz/response.avi My brother was riding shotgun with me going on a call and took the video. So you can't say that kinda stuff ain't fun.

I can't afford rods anymore. Some of the stuff I used to own

63 chev SS Impala, 327

69 383 Roadrunner

70 440 sixpack Roadrunner. That thing was fast. With 3:54 rear and mufflers, it was still good for 13.0's and at least 140 top end. I used to take it up towards Carlsbad on I-5 early on Sundays, back then there was no traffic at 5:00AM. The thing would STILL get nearly 14 mpg back then. That car later saw a 340 and was a lot of fun to drive, and better mileage. The 340, with headers, would beat a stock 383, and still get 17 mpg

When I had the local regional emergency HAZMAT response contract for the EPA we were entitled to have the lightshow, the bells and all the whistles on our response vehicles.

This included my Jeep Grand Wagoneer Limited company car, but I had elected to do without the lightbar in lieu of a full "plainclothes" wrapper complete with the behind the grill strobes, alternately flashing headlights and the obligatory dashboard bubble gum machine.

I'm afraid that I gave in to my baser instincts on more than one occasion and in the short span of about a year or so I had "pulled over" my sister, her husband, a few neighbors and friends and my business partner!

Yeah, that kinda' stuff is FUN!

Nothing special here. Just an 01 F150 and I love it. No problems with it except for some spark knock on regular gas. 4.2 gets good mileage. I do like the styling.

Also have a 1980 Pinto with a turbo 2.3 out of a Merkur (german ford sierra) Just about done, just have to finish the rear sway bar and some engine tuning. Low cost and easy to do.

Not really. I find it very interesting. Wow, you got so many cars!!!

Is it cheap to buy a car in USA?

In Singapore, a car is around a few hundred thousands of dollars and you need to pay road tax, maintenance tax, ERP tax, government tax, parking tax, insurance tax, and etc.........! Even though i got a car license to drive, i also can't afford to buy even the cheapest car in Singapore. Too expensive and later also need to pay for so many taxes.....! *sigh!*

Nothing especial here either. 2006 Chevy Cobalt LT with the performance package. Surprisingly powerful engine, plus I am getting around 33 MPG.

Will probably trade within a few years for the new Chevy Camaro (if the suits at GM wake up and decide to put it into production).

I've wanted to get my dirty hands into a '71 Plymouth Barracuda for a while now, but the price those things go for is insane. Wish I could back in time 35 years and get one. :D

Are you sure you don't mean 100 mph? 100km/h is actually very slow for Northern California standards. I routinely drive around 75mph (120km/h) on the highway. One night, shortly after getting my car, in a long stretch of highway with no cars around I actually got to 110mph (177km/h) before wussing out and taking my foot off the pedal.

However, with people in my car I am much more careful and never top 85mph.

75MPH out here on the East coast on I95 and a few other roads will only cause the tractor trailers to stack up on your tail. And garner a LOT of glares from other drivers as they attempt to make your car explode with the death rays from their eyes as they pass!

You almost have to go 85MPH just to keep up with the traffic flow during rush hour.

As someone "bred and buttered" in the city, I was always under the impression that one HAD to kill someone to get out! Preferably someone from Jersey in order to take their place.

Seriously though, NYC/LI traffic is the primary reason we sold our place in the Hamptons. I just simply could no longer look forward to going out east, and spent the better portion of weekend trips out there worrying about how long it was going to take to get back.

Even flying up and back wasn't less stressful as weather became a greater factor, plus having to leave an "extra" car at the cottage or airport was taxing on our resources with five drivers in the house at the time.

I'd say I need to move to the East coast then. :)

Actually I remember the in-laws mentioning after a trip to Ohio a couple of years ago that traffic seemed to be faster there, although I immediately dismissed that comment as typical in-law BS.

In California, as long as you don't go over 75mph in the highway you are safe from getting a ticket. I wonder if the highway patrol in the East coast have a different tacit standard as to what speed is worthy of a ticket.

We have a number of highways where the speed limit is 75MPH, so you have to push the envelope a bit to garner attention.

That said, weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed on the NJ Turnpike is guaranteed to make a Trooper pop out of your trunk! Well, at least that's what it will seem like, they're very stealthy.

PA Troopers will give you 10MPH over provided you're not passing a lot of traffic as a loner.

If you're within 20 miles of the center of Baltimore, 5MPH over the posted limit is safe, 10MPH over and you're a goner. MD Troopers (the infamous "Yellowjackets") are not to be toyed with!

Being a lone wolf in VA will draw unwanted attention, stay in a pack. The upside is that the pack will probably be running at 75 to 80MPH!

Of course, at 12K feet AGL and 250 knots in this, none of that stuff matters!

I do have to admit there seems to be a fewer amount of clueless drivers in the DC area at least compared to NC. DC drivers will turn right at stoplights if they have any room to do so. The inner/outer loop of the DC beltway is still 5mph, but the average speed is 80. Once you get out of the stopngo traffic on 95, it's pretty much as fast as you wanna go provided you stay in a pack.

That's a beautiful machine. I have only been aboard a small airplane once, and it was an unforgetable experience. I envy you, sir!

Thank you for your comprehensive manual on best speeding practices on Eastern states. I should print a copy in case I must travel there at some point.

Regarding the Maryland "Yellojackets", that sounds quite dangerous. Do they sting?

Take care.

I keep hearing about packs. Isn't the last one in the pack that always gets screwed? I got a ticket for going 65 mph in a 50 mph zone, and I was just following a guy. However, I must say that this was a one-lane road (two lanes, one in each direction), so the county police car that got me really didn't have a choice to go for the guy ahead of me. :P

Most of the driving habits in certain northeastern states can be described as follows; gawddarn Stoplight Grand Prix. Last time I was over there with a few friends, in Boston, the traffic in and around it was *murderous*. Everybody *has* to get to the same point at the same time from different paths and at least 5mph faster than the other guy who is trying to go 5mph faster than him; combine this with the view that pedestrians have an obstacle rating somewhere between "orange safety cone" and "lane reflector" and you get the idea.

On the upshot, there are all sorts of fun motorsports they have, including but not limited to;

The Double Vertical Pass: Passing two vehicles in a single acceleration.

The Triple Vertical Pass: Passing three vehicles in a single acceleration.

The Horizontal Double Pass: Passing a vehicle that is itself in the act of passing another vehicle. In some areas, this is a community pastime to be savoured, apparently.

Threading the Needle: Green means go, Yellow means speed the hell up, and red means floor it.

Bumper Cars: Accelerate past you, turn into your lane, then slow down for no apparent reason.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
