I too was intrigued by the Portege 3490CT, so I looked up some pix on Google and eBay. It looks kind of similar to the Portege 7020CT that I once owned, and I think the Thinkpad X20 (similar weight and from the same era) looks simpler but more elegant! Like Thinkpaddict, I don't warm up to the two-color scheme of the Portege line.

I actually never cared for the titanium PowerBooks, and waited with my old black one until the aluminum 12" came out.

I got a very clean 570E today and its similarities to the X2* series are striking, but somehow it looks even prettier. I now think the 570E is the best-looking Thinkpad.

-All T-series ThinkPads

-The black MacBook (though I'd never spend money on it)

I also love my current BenQ Joybook 7000. It also happens to be a good notebook.

T40 was prettier with the red and blue markings on the trackpoint, but as far as shape and design, 14" non-wide T60 is my vote for best-looking T-series.

I have to agree with you. I owned a Pismo for a few years and I thought it was one of the best [censored] laptops I have ever owned. Then I got a T23 and loved it too. That was followed by a 1GHz Powerbook G4 Titanium. Man that is one sweet laptop. I am also partial to the first 'snow books' and to the PBDUO2300c.

I love my T41P. I t looks great and is an excellent machine. I have always liked IBM's laptops for their sense of style, sophistication and great performance.

Overall the best 2 companies for laptop design IMO are IBM and Apple. Other companies just can't seem to get it right, Sony comes close sometimes but still just misses the mark in some minor way.

The Duos were really good computers. They looked great, were easy to carry around, featured relatively good screens (the passive matrix B&W models could be used in sunlight) and were easy to take apart. My only complaint lies with the mushy keyboards that slowed down typing and hurt wrists.

The last Duos weren't too bad to type on, they had keyboard revisions along the way and I'm not sure what the letter was, I think 'c'.

That said, my favorite Duo was the first Duo 210 and 230 (only differed in processor speed). These had a passive matrix screen that looked horrible in grayscale, but was quite nice when reduced to black and white, and as mentioned previously, could be used outdoors in bright sun with the backlight turned off. Add the later Type 4 batteries from more recent color Duos to the slow 25MHz Duo 210 with no backlight and a ram disk and you could work for over six hours on one charge, in total silence when booted from the RAM disk (I think the utility that allowed this was called Maxima).

Wow, now I'm all nostalgic and might go hunting for an old Duo 210 to set up.

1) My Pismo was a gorgeous stylish notebook in it's day.

2) My Favorite T2x series is my T23.

3) I still have my 1GHz Powerbook G4 Titanium with 1GB ram and it's as shiny and scratch free as day one. My Fav Mac notebook.

4) My Fav ThinkPad Pair are my T60 & T60p... simply stellar.

5) I agree and that's why I've owned so many ThinkPads.

6) Well said, Kudos to the ThinkPad & Apple notebook lineups. If I added my Mac notebooks to my signature it would reflect nearly as many Macs as ThinkPads.

OK... Ok... True Confessions... I'm an addict and cross-addicted to Laptops and Mobile Phones....

Hooray for choices!

Cheers... :)
