Firewire alternative in T60P?!
Firewire alternative in T60P?!
Hi,
I recently bought a T60P. Yesterday I bought a camcorder sony HC3E. I thought since they're both top of the line, they'll be compatible in every way.
However, the camcorder requires a firewire on the computer to upload film to the computer - and the T60P doesn't have firewire.
What do I do?
Thanks
Rex

You will probably have to buy a Firewire adapter (PC Card)Teerex wrote:Hi,

If it's a new camera, it should allow video streaming over USB--check your manual.
A user at our office ran into that problem but when they brought their camera into the office, I saw the mini USB port and looked online and verified that it could do video streaming over USB. Some cameras have the mini USB port but still don't allow streaming so you must check the manual and make sure you have the proper drivers installed.

If your camera doesn't support USB 2.0, you could also take a look at a firewire PC-Card for the PCMCIA bay (the bottom one of the two bays).
Take a look at this LaCie card card
Only as an example. I don't know which brands you prefer.

Fire wire cards
I had the same problem when I got the T60p without fire wire port... needed to hook up an older Sony camcorder.
Tried the CompUSA fire wire card. Caused severe fatal errors, to the point of needed to shut down the system.
Returned and got Adaptec fire wire card. Works flawlessly.
Good luck!
