What Bill has done is very important, because many people might otherwise assume this to be part of IBM or Lenovo.

And the part that says "NOT part of IBM/Lenovo" that's been there forever didn't tip you off? It took Bill adding his name to it? Hmmm...

Banana yourself! :D

Anybody who missed the fact that this forum isn't part of IBM/Lenovo and was started by Bill, in the first place with "NOT part of IBM/Lenovo" up in the title frame, might need a checkup and possible daily assistance. Then again, that might not be too uncommon given the following subjects that have been the concern/question in various posts here, in Inverted Top Ten Format*;

1.) If the the T43 has an IR port; important and completely non-obvious, indeed.

2.) Why the service partition can't be accessed after a complete reformat of the HDD. This is for security purposes; remember, if you can't access your data on your own system, then it is *completely* safe.

3.) What the second fan in Thinkpads does and where it is. This is crucial information for some so they can proceed to block the outlets with playdough by "accident."

4.) What the little red thing in the middle of the keyboard is. To save thinking (and hence possible cranial damage) for new users; it is just a finger resting area that happens to be made of rubber and can only hold one finger at a time.

5.) Giant essays (of varying and questionable quality) about fan noise and trackpoint button color highlights. IMPORTANT FACT: if it wasn't for that color on the trackpoint buttons, the structural integrity of the Thinkpad could be comprimised! This is known as the Collective Color Theory and should be believed because some happen to think it is even remotely important and is also pedantic (which is the most important thing that a theory must be in order to be believed).

6.)Rants/paranoia/dementia about fan noise and how it is a conspiracy by Lenovo to deafen the true IBM users. This should be immediately obvious; if not, please adjust your tinfoil hat and check if it is wet for better reception from the Collective.

7.) How to replace the GPU in a Thinkpad. This is an easy enough operation for even the new user to do easily with a spatula, fire extinguisher, and a banana ( <--- BANANA).

8.) How to reset a Supervisor password. This is for *Total Security* and it is perfectly safe to set and forget a password as that limits *everybody's* access to your system and makes it secure. If a user is lucky, such a Password Forgetting will prevent the boot and connection of said user to the internet, saving everybody resources. Professional!

9.) Why a PS/2 mouse can't plug into the PS/2 port on the left side of a T4X Series Thinkpad. This is because of thermal expansion of your plug, please place it in the freezer with your system and wait for a day for them to equilibrate.

10.) Posting a thread because a title/letter/font/your favorite color was modified or added to. This is an important function because it could alert us to OMG 1337 hackers that favour changing forum titles and nothing else.

I really could go on and on and on. Based on my experience with a broad range of users, students, and people on different systems, it has been shown that not even a blinking neon sign can stand up to most users' ability to avoid instructions and information (I am pretty sure this is a superhero/supervillan power as well). Given as such is par for the course, I am not even sure that a large popup saying "Bill Morrow's ThinkPads.com Open Forum" would be able to help out here.

In the future, however, we will be able to physically affect people through the internet and can apply operant conditioning, in conjuction with physical actions, to "impact" the point deeper. It has been demonstrated that just such frequent physical "impacts" can make the retention of computer knowledge easier for the common user.

Once I perfect just such a device, that is. :D

*This is highly technical terminology that the reader probably can't understand and should not be taken seriously, much like this thread. Names have been changed to protect the guilty and annoy the reader. Batteries not included.

Wasn't there a screen saver a long time ago that had a picture of a hammer coming out the top of the monitor and striking the user (loser?) on the head?

Possibly. I would indeed enjoy such a screensaver. :D

MWAHAHAHA That has to be the most hilarious post ever. Great prelude to tonight's Simpsons season premiere. Talking about The Simpsons, maybe what Bill needs to do is put up a Flash animation with puppets explaining that this site is not affiliated with IBM or Lenovo. Something even Homer would get after half hour or so. :D

Chris, create that type of screen saver. Will be happy to get a screen saver like this.

Thanks...!! :-)

Hmm, the z61ts have a camera, right? That could make for some interesting screensavers...You could have one with the hammer hitting the person at the computer, or even better, do something like that comedy show that had it look like the grim reaper was sneaking up on people.

You know, I never thought about that. The Z61 does indeed have an integrated webcam. :D

That idea would have been perfect for several recent incidents I can remember, although the only problem with it is that not too many have Z61s, due to how new they are.
