"Burglars get severed heads shock"

VIENNA (Reuters) - Burglars in Vienna opted for a speedy getaway after they found eight severed human heads when breaking into the basement of an apartment building, Austrian police said Friday.

A dentist had stored the mummified heads, which he used for research, in a chest in the basement. Burglars stumbled upon the collection when they broke in, police said.

"The burglars were looking for loot when they discovered the heads," said a spokeswoman for Austrian police. "From what it looks like, they just left them lying and bolted away."

Austrian authorities said they were investigating whether there had been a breach of the regulations for storing research materials.

Maybe I should start collecting skulls. It's probably the most effective theft deterrent out there.

interesting read. collecting skulls...emm... not a bad idea  can use this method to scare the burgulars away... remember to add a luminious light in the skull so that it glows eerily in the dark.

Hmm, I wonder if a similar getup would help in keeping the Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons away. I'm thinking something in the lines of leaving a few of those heads on my porch, add a few chalk outlines then throw religious pamphlets around them.

A.K.A "The Jeff Foxworthy Technique" ;) :)

Although I like that, I really do.

It doesn't, however, protect against these cats. :D

Guess the reference!

Well in Medieval times it was not uncommon to see heads rotting on pikes as you approached a village, as a warning to ne'er-do-wells.

There was also the technique of hanging miscreants in a cage from the castle wall to slowly starve to death and rot, which was equally effective.

But of course there's that line from Dickens about the throngs of pickpockets who worked the crowd, gathered to watch the hanging of... pickpockets.

And I remember being puzzled when I was in Saudi Arabia, a place where there is absolutely no crime, at who all these people were in the market every Friday getting hands and heads chopped off. They certainly couldn't be criminals, because there is no crime. :?

A few heads in the basement might work once. But if everyone had heads in their basement, the thieves would quickly adapt.
