My first own PC was ThinkPad R50e. I bought approx 2 and half year back in India. I was looking for Toshiba but in early 2005 Toshiba was [censored] expensive and still expensive in India. I found ThinkPad R50e advertise in news paper & I was amazed a bit to see resonable price of same config as Toshiba was offering.

I wasn't much familier with ThinkPad and the black suit case..hehe
..Yeah looks very simple like small suit case...But I had no option but to buy R50e laptop which has no touchpad.

But it was an good deal. I never had any problem with it. Recently I bought refurnished T60 from US. I dont wish to sell R50e but to recover the cost of T60 i am selling my R50e ... :?

But I would really like to mention ~~THINKPAD rocks !!!!!! ~~
In INDIA price of ThinkPads is too much. R60 costs more than 1300 US$ . Thats the reason not many buyers going for ThinkPads in India...

They reallize the poor quality of HP.Compaq after 5~6 months of purchase when those crazy laptops starts throwing hardware error like Blue screen, DVD writer failure, battery problem, dead pixels and heating problem....I wouldnt take compaq presario if some1 throws it for even free..Hehe !!!

only THINKPAD !!! Yo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards,
AmeY.

Well, I have 7 thinkpads, 9 if I count the first 600 that I sold, and a non working T23.

The others are in my sig :

- ThinkPad 701Cs 2630-7SU,
- ThinkPad 600E 2645-5A0 (w/ PIII 500),
- ThinkPad 560 2640-10U,
- ThinkPad T23 2647-FG4,
- ThinkPad 755Cs 9545-DSC,
- Thinkpad X20 2662-31G,
- Thinkpad X31 2672-FG9.

I buy one or two machines a year, to collect them.

I'd like to have :

- S30 or S31,
- 570E,

- X300.

I'd like to find an SXGA+ LCD for my T23 too. :P

Well, let's be patient...

I have one right now. But if the right 14.1'' widescreen pops up on ebay ...

I have had a few problems with the T60 BUT it changed my opinion of laptops. I now like laptops.

My X61 and X24 are all I have. My sister has a Lenovo 3000 N100, but that isn't quite up to Thinkpad standards (though she always tells me about how it's better than all her friends' laptops). I was bidding on a Workpad Z50 on Ebay, but I lost...not quite a Thinkpad, but close enough.
X61 Tablet - 1.6GHz C2D, SXGA+, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, Vista Business.

i have other laptops but i'll be honest i never use 'em

Look for the Z61t with 14.1" 1440x900. It's as good as the T series but is prettier and lighter than the 14.1" widescreen T61.

Just two.

I think I had 4 at one time last year, but my purchasing has declined with these things. I still praise them and cringe when I have to use a non-Thinkpad, though.

I always heard good things about thinkpads, but never owned one. I got my hands on an old R40 and I am very happy with it. I would buy more if I could convince my wife that it was good!

I just have a T60 14.1 and an x61s. Use the x61s day to day and the t40 as a backup / family laptop.

You people are all sick. Sick! SICK! ya hear me??

I only have five ThinkPads. But each one has a separate hard drive for XP or Vista depending on my mood at the time.

So does that mean I really have 10? But still...I'm not as SICK as the rest of you....

Laptops don't last as long when they get moved a lot. It's better to have at least one that stays at work most of the time and at least one that stays at home most of the time, and transfer files between them using portable storage devices such as USB flash drives. There should be a third one that's very light and reserved for travel. So, one needs at least three laptops.

My first thinkpad came about when I needed a laptop for school as I used to travel quite a bit and found that I could do my work at school I could save time.

So I decided at the time to get a T20 - basically just fell in love with the black aura and the fantastic build condition and not to mention the superb keyboard.

Since then and becoming a member of this forum I have acquired about 4 more TPs for members in my family. One by one they all replaced their desktop computers with the thinkpads.

My younger brother has the T20 as of now but thanks to George will soon have a nice A31p. My mom has an A21m and will soon have the T20 for work. I have a T41p for school. My dad had an A31 (R.I.P) which died about two weeks ago and will now be parted out to fit into my brothers A31p. He unfortunately felt it was time to step outside the thinkpad world and got a Toshiba 17" desktop replacement laptop which helps him see the pretty heavy duty electrical engineering CAD files.

I just bought an SXGA+ LCD and a 1.7GHz Dothan for my T41p and just cannot wait to get them in. The next thing I have to get is probably a 9Cell T4xp battery.
T400 14.1" WXGA+ LCD / T9400 / 4GB / 160gb / ATi+Intel GFX / 9C / W7 64

Wow! Suddenly I feel more at home here :D

Around the time the Pentium IV was introduced I was looking for an el-cheapo laptop for in the living room. I stumbled upon a 570 (233MHz), no memory, no disk, password protected, smelly, poor battery, white bars in the screen, ... Frankly, it was a piece of **** Being in IT for way too long and being impressed by the size and feel of it, I decided to buy it for 35 euros.

Man, did I had some learning coming up! I used to own an IBM desktop (386!) and all my (non-IBM) upgrades failed. My conclusion was: If there is one pc that is not IBM compatible, it's an IBM  All these memories came back. It wouldn't take the PCMCIA cards, the harddisks I've tried, the memory that I had lying around... So I tried a BIOS update. Well er... then I'll need a floppy drive first! Bought a drive, next I needed was a power supply because the old Compaq adaptor went out.. and soon ran in to the password protection. The white bars were also getting bigger and took more effort from me bending te screen to get a readable image.

Anyway, I got it working and I absolutely love(d) it! Never got the smell out, although I fully took it apart and cleaned it very well. What was really great was the way the screen can be dimmed, an average Toshiba gives me a headache after 15 minutes on the lowest brightness... And the performance compared to similar spec'ed laptops is simply amazing :o

After two years or so, the battery died and the screen was getting worse and worse. Took me longer to apply my "special bending technique" than the TP took booting XP. Decided for an upgrade and soon found an A20m for a nice price in the neighbourhood. Bought that, but it only lasted for nearly a year. The case was severely cracked and the only way to get it booting (and not freezing) was to bend the area around the PCI controller. I will never know how hard it fell, and when this happened, because I never noticed it before :?

So I got back to the "affordable" part of the laptop business and stumbled upon a Lenovo 3000 N100. It's a nice machine, although I really hate the rearrangment of the keys

After three quarters of a year, I saw an ad on a local marketplace. IBM 570 with forgotten password. I offered 45 euros and it's mine :D Got it working and stuck my A20m drive in it. Jeez, have I missed this little thing! And before I knew it I bought a 570E with cracked screen and another 570 without drive, memory or battery (but good screen).

So, now I have a 570E, a 570, and a 570. Oh, and a 570

The use? One I'm preparing for my car, to read the error codes via OBDII. One for in the garage to provide me with the workshop manuals (yep, no longer on paper..). One for spares and one that I call the CrapPad. Every part of it is damaged or broken, but it runs like hell :o I might use it as firewall.

Man, what a story..

I wish there was a serious successor to the TP570..

I have(and used to have)
390x x1(sold as parts three years ago)
240/240x x12 (I was really into fixing and modding this series until last year, at least two are going to be up for sale soon)
x24 x1 (sold earlier this year)
x41 tablet x2 (one is going to be up for sale soon)
T40 x1 (sold earlier this year)
R61/R61i x2(one is going to be up for sale soon)
T61 x1 (it's going to be up for sale soon)
total count: 20

Currently I have
1x 240
1x 240x
6x 240/240x parts/bases
2x X41 tablet
1x R61
1x R61i
1x T61

Sometimes I am wondering if I buy thinkpads just to evaluate/mod them or to use them.

My current daily driver is a X41 tablet and I don't think I am giving it up anytime soon.

I can say I have 3 TPs because my wife and my father (and me of course) have them and it is only me who takes care about the devices. ;) I could not imagine what I supposed to do if there would be smth else than TP. So far, so good. :)

I own 5 Thinkpads.

3 T41's
2 X31's

1 T41 is for my personal use.
1 T41 my daughter uses
1 T41 was going to be a gift for someone, but she didn't want it... can you imagine! It's a spare now.

1 X31 is for my personal use. I now use it more than my T41.
1 X31 is a spare... besides, I couldn't pass up the price I got it for. Someday I'll need something from it that I can't get anymore. Yes, the X31 is older, but for word processing, internet, size, and just plain being beautiful, how can you beat it?!!! :thumbs-UP:

Two for me: an X60t that I carry around daily and a T60p that's an emergency machine should my pos (dell) XPS desktop go down (again) or something befall my trusty X60t. I dearly love both my ThinkPads.

Mornsgrans, no FlexViews in your fabulous collection? Not counting the tablet, that is...

You broke my heart...

Just the ones in the sig. and a T500 that keeps running away when it's around
I'm jealous of most of you guys who have a lot of the older ones, especially awesome things like the TransNote

We should all band together and construct a castle made of ThinkPads :D

For personal use? Between 1 and 3 at any time.

Own as in "currently have possession of", including machines being prepped for sale, stripped for parts, etc.? I'd say between 1 and a dozen or so at a time.

Currently got 6. I'm suffering through a real bad case of Thinkpadinitus. Doesn't help that there's some smoking local deals right now.
