like i said earlier just my opinion, some of it is backed by fact that people would rather not believe. If you dont think society has taken a turn for the worse since prayer in schools was taken away check some statistics of before and after. They are on the same site i mentioned earlier. Also, Im not here to attack anybody personally or what you believe. I have said what i had to say and you can believe what you want. I choose to believe fact, I choose to believe there is 1 God and I call Him Lord. You believe what you want, but I hope you are right because decisions like that determine when and where you spend your eternity. Im not here putting anybody down or disrespecting anybody, truth is I love everybody. Black, white, gay, straight, tall, skinny, fat, ugly, poor, rich, smart, stupid, don't matter to me. I may not like what you are or what your doing but that doesnt mean i would treat you any less than a real person. I work in a room packed with women, and most of them are mormon. I dont believe what they believe but I would NEVER slam them or disrespect them for what they believe in. I know 100% sure that I believe in what is the 1 and true living God. Ask anybody that has done business with me or knows me. Im no fake, this aint no show, see for yourself

OK, it wasn't as it was founded on English common law, the Magna Carta and other historical precedents. Among them I'm sure are some that can be characterized as "Christian" or 'blblical" but just as easily characterized as "Confucian" or Buddhist". And the Founding Fathers weren't ALL Christians.skitty4gzus wrote:Tell me the government was not founded on biblical and Christian values. Not to mention our forefathers were not "religious" but they were Christians.
You're entitled to your opinion on religion, but I'm entitled to mine just as well and I don't have to accept having your, or any religion shoved down my throat on the precept that it's for the nation's good or it's what the majority prefer. That's precisely the protection afforded everyone by the Constitution.

That is what is so great about this forum. There might be these intense heated topics, but yet take a look at a different thread and these guys are still plugging along like best friends. Nah, he's good people and the "your religion" in my post was pluralistic, not personal.Kyocera wrote:I don't really think skitty is trying to shove his opinion or belief down anyones throat in this thread

Not to engender any acrimony in what has been a thoughtful thread to date, I thought I might simply add the following as a suggestion for those on the list who are interested in furthering their political education.
I strongly urge everyone in the US to turn to HBO1 tonight at 10PM Eastern to watch "Hacking Democracy". Check your local listings for other showtimes.

Could someone download the election process and upload it into youtube or metacafe and post the link here, please... I am excited..
BTW: USA president Bush is coming to singapore within these few days and all road blocks are setup...
When I made my last post above, I had watched "Hacking Democracy", but my attention was divided with other chores at hand. Fortunately I was able to watch most of the program again in a repeat later at night. It certainly was interesting and alarming. I cannot say I was especially surprised though. The part where one of the machines was demostrated that it could be hacked had one of the observers in tears. She made a telling comment - I believe she said something to the effect that a friend of hers told her that "we are a country pretending to be another country".
Here is another story along the same lines from The New York Times (registration required) in regard to the election last week:

A few days ago, while searching for something K. Eng posted years ago, I ran across this thread. Four months after the fact, it's interesting. Late to the party, but a few observations/comments:
1) "Is there any common ground anymore?" As long as discussions like this take place, yes. An old friend once said "Where I come from we only talk for so long, then we start to hit.". If it's talking and not hitting we still have some "common ground".
2) English is, and will remain, the de facto official language without being made the de jure official language. Even though Canada has adopted dual official languages, it's likely you have to know English to get along in Ontario and French to get along in Quebec. I know that was true years ago and I assume it's still the case.
3) Permitting abortion and/or same sex marriage/civil union is different than requiring one or both.
Whether abortion, same sex marriage, or stem cell research violate your religious beliefs is a different question than whether government should be enacting particular religious beliefs. Whether you are entitled to vote your religious beliefs is another question. The answer to the last one is clearly yes.
According to reports, Dearborn, MI has the largest Middle Eastern Muslim population outside of the Middle East. Consider whether that should allow Dearborn to enact, as local law, Islamic beliefs.
Same sex couples have legal issues (income tax, employee benefits, and inheritance to name three) which do not apply to traditional marriages.
4) "Rush Limbaugh is a buffoon who will say and do whatever it takes to maintain his radio ratings and personal income" is something that can be rephrased to "[Insert Politicians Name Here] is a buffoon who will say and do whatever it takes to get elected/re-elected.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
5) "The war on terror" and "supporting the troops".
Prior to 9/11 the "biggest" (in terms of damage and death) terrorist attack on US soil was Oklahoma City. Perpetrated by US native citizens, at least one of whom was a veteran. It was treated by the government and the vast majority of citizens as what it was: a criminal act.
The way to lose the "war on terror" is to be afraid, or act as though you're afraid.
There are innumerable ways to "support the troops" without supporting "the war on terror.".
6) Immigration
Since I'm Czech-Finnish and not Sioux or the like, it's a little late for me to be concerned about immigrants and immigration. Besides, as Carlos Mencia asked, "If we deport all the illegals before we build the fence, who's going to build it?"
