Does the Pop up on receipt of PM option in profile work?

#1 Post by rkawakami » Fri Nov 17, 2006 2:30 pm

This may seem like a silly question, but I couldn't find anything in the archives about it.

I saw the Pop up Window on new Private Message option in my profile when I signed up, but never enabled it. As I now think having that option would be a good idea, I just tried enabling it and sending myself a message but didn't get any popup. I've disabled my Firefox popup blocker but still don't see anything. Does this only work if I get a PM from somebody else (banner at the top of the page never indicated that I had one new message waiting)? If it DOES work, then what is the domain that I need to enter into Firefox's popup blocker?

It used to work. I eventually turned it off in my profile.

It works on my computer; I just had to set FireFox to allow pop-ups from this site. Whenever I'm on this site and a message is sent to me, I get the notification next time I load a page on this site.

Just got a test message from dsigma6 and it works. I set both forum.thinkpads.com and thinkpads.com into my Firefox pop-up manager so one of them must be correct.

I actually prefer to keep the site blocked, but it still gives the notice at the top that it has blocked a pop-up...which is obviously indicating a new PM.

I guess some people need pop-ups if their eyes are getting older... :P

edit: Ray, would the process of elimination take too long to find out which one works?

Are you trying to imply something? :)

Go for it. I took one of the URLs out of the pop-up manager list.

My firewall also blocks pop-ups. You may want to check that too.

With a couple of days testing and after receiving a few PMs, I've found that the only URL required by Firefox's pop-up blocker "Allowed Sites" list is "thinkpads.com".

Moderator Ray, you couldn't go off of my hunch? You had to attempt to prove me wrong? :)
