FWIW: LATEST SCAM ON EBAY?...

#1 Post by draco2527 » Sun Dec 10, 2006 1:10 pm

Well...here it goes, never seen this before...

1ST Step-A new "member of the community" will bid on YOUR auction/auctions but never pay...

2ND Step- If you bid on anything worth a little $ and you don't win...you will get "second chance" offers to your personal email address...

Scammers seem to have "taken" over Ebay...they are starting to get on my bad side..

This happened to me once, a long time ago when I didn't realize it's dangerous, and I accepted the second chance offer. Fortunately, it was legitimate and I got a nice X20 for $100 shipped. I sold it immediately to make a $40 profit.

A potential third type of scam that I discovered several days ago. I found 18 X60s's for sale with a Buy-It-Now price of $699 plus free shipping. The seller had sold thousands of dolls before, but never a single laptop or computer part. These auctions also had a "best offer" option, and five people had made their offers and all of them were accepted. A day later, all these auctions were terminated prematurely. My guess is this doll seller's account was hijacked by a scammer.

>...[bogus] "second chance" offers...

you will note that eBay now does not give bidders' actual names
when significant dollars >$1000 are involved: instead "bidder 1,
bidder 2," etc. Should cut it down some.
the way up and the way down are the same (heraclitus)

I just came across another obvious scam. This seller has never sold computers before, but is suddenly selling **22** "New OQO Model 01+":

eBay really needs to implement a way for eBay browsers, like us, to anonymously inform account holders that their accounts may have been hijacked. Clearly eBay buyers come across these auctions often and before eBay or the account holder notices.

Maybe a button on every auction that emails or SMS's the account holder?

My account was hijaked once. Someone was selling computers off my account. I deleted the listings and changed my password, problem solved.

my account was just hijacked the other week, some idiot tried to hijack it and sell a harley. I had to go through the whole process of resetting passwords and my account was suspended for a few days in the process. its just not safe anymore on ebay; you really have to have a savvy eye for what is there and please oh please READ THE AUCTION DETAILS!!!
