Most commercial movie DVDs are copy-protected. Fortunately there's a free program DVDShrink that can remove that protection, as well as region coding and prohibited user operations and such: http://www.dvdshrink.info/sickofit wrote:Someone told me you can't backup a whole movie...???
Most commercial media are written on so-called dual-layer media that stores 2x the standard 4.7GB. Until very recently you couldn't buy dual-layer burners, and in any case the cost of blank media is quite high. DVDShrink also lets you strip out redundant stuff off the DVD, e.g. multiple languages, directors commentary, etc. as well as "shrink" (compress) the movie itself such that usually you can fit an entire dual-layer movie into a one single-layer DVD with minimal loss of quality.Only if its under a certain size....Is this true...???
DVDShrink can also invoke Nero to burn the DVD. It's still not one-step because you have to edit/strip/compress material manually. The link I provided has several very slick Guides that will lead you through the process. Is it possible, like a CD,just to hit copy disc, and have a backup the same as my original..???
