Quote pulled from an eBay auction

"I'm not a specialist in laptop but I know that excepted the fact that the screen is blank and there is not booting up when the laptop starts, there is no major problem."

I guess you could call him really honest........ he's not lying.

$175.00 + 38.00 S/H

I also saw, (if I remember correctly) a couple of days ago, a brand new i series 550 MMX in an unopened box with a BIN of $650.00.

Both of them must have Christmas bills coming due...... :D

I posted a while back about a woman selling an i1200 I believe- it was used, she had all the specs wrong, and wanted $900.

This is the flip side to all the unbelievably low prices we've all seen over the years. The really funny thing about those ridiculously high prices is that sometimes people bid on those things.
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

Here's another funny one:

"Technician Diagnosis: Unit Powers On. And login to windows XP. LCD is working."

Then the seller goes on to say...

"NO HardDisk and AC Adapter"

But, as if that weren't bad enough:

"it come with the HardDisk Cover and candy"
"If Microsoft had an original thought the company would immediately implode in suprise."

Yum, "candy"!

At least they are using 36 (or so) point type in red to let the bidder know. What they are doing is saying that the laptop performs as expected, yet they are not selling the hard drive or AC adapter. Possibly because they need them for another computer. This is common enough that I don't consider it misleading. It's up to the buyer to be aware of what/how the seller is describing the goods.

I think he was saying that it booted to xp successfully with a hard drive installed.
Candy must be a typo... I mean... uh... I hope it is...

Might as well add this one to the laugh gallery. It's the description for a lot of eight T20s:
The first unit's LCD has several light, white translucent spots (WTS). Also the light shining from the bottom of the LCD shines brighter towards the bottom of the screen. Casing has a small crack over the HD slot on inner casing.

Second machine also has WTS. Its keyboard pertrudes upward over L key. The center inner hinge cover is missing and there is a crack on the right side of the machine's screen plastic casing.

Third unit powers on and stays on but screen does not activate. Physically unit is in great shape. The palmrest and bottom casing of unit have writing edged into them. Its speed is based on similar units we have received recently. Boots BIOS undetermined.

Fourth unit turns on briefly then shuts off. Screen never activates. Speed based on other units we have received recently. Missing / key.

Fifth machine doesn't turn on.When plugged in to power supply, unit makes awkward scratching noise. Left latch on unit is jammed

Sixth unit has several small WTS. Palmrest carved into and scratched. Bottom side on this unit is also carved into.

Seventh unith a couple of faint WTS. System requires a password which prevents one from seeing BIOS. Bottom of unit's LCD shines brighter. Palmrest and bottom of unit carved into.

Last unit has several small WTS. Error code 0271 appears while machine is booting to BIOS.
And here's the funny part...
All Are Excellent Systems!!!
These are all being sold with no Ultrabay device, no battery and no AC adapter and only four hard drives (untested but pulled from 'working' machines). I'm surprised that 192MB of memory is included. Hmm... maybe they mean one 64MB and one 128MB stick to be shared between ALL of the systems :) .

If this seller had retained my services to copyedit the ad, I would have assumed the intended word was caddy and replaced it without consultation. On the other hand, some vendors I have ordered books from have sent actual candy along with the order. Maybe this seller is trying to entice bidders with candy?

Computers do exactly what you tell them at amazing speeds; this can be bad if what you told them wasn't what you had in mind.
