phpBB question about "view posts since last visit"

#1 Post by rkawakami » Fri Jan 12, 2007 3:33 am

This is basically a phpBB question but I'm hoping somebody here knows the answer. I've tried searching around but came up empty.

Does anybody know if there is a hack or workaround to manually specify a date/time which is then used as the basis for listing "new" posts when clicking on the link, "View posts since last visit"?

The reason I ask is that I was viewing the index of latest posts like I always do and then I loaded a new tab with a site that launched a Java applet which in turn locked up Firefox. The only way to get out of it was to kill the process. Of course when I re-launched Firefox and came back to this site, phpBB told me that there were no new posts since my last visit. From playing around with the browser and looking at the cookies that are being set, I see that there is a cookie named "phpbb2mysql_t". Of course it's mostly in hex coding (which I'm too lazy to convert at the moment) so I was wondering if that is something I can hack into and (temporarily) set the way I want to. I've already tried changing my system time to an hour earlier, closing the browser, reseting the time and then opening the browser again, but that doesn't seem to work. I can't find anything in my profile settings which appear to control this option either. Any suggestions?

edit: After further searching the net about phpBB options it seems like this is a server-side issue and that it's not something controlled by cookies. Oh well...

I know, I have tried quite a few things...yet none of them seem to get around that little issue.

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

PHPBB as a board system isn't...spectacular. It gets the job done and that's about it. If you want a slightly better system, you gotta pay  for something like vBulletin.
