I have been archiving my personal CD collection (all legally purchased) into MP3 files. It's a total of 6K CDs, requiring close to 600GB of hard drive space. Of course these files are legal, but how would Vista know? What if it thinks they are illegal and erase them?
On the other hand, if it's just a rumor, then NS really shouldn't have stated it as though it's a fact.
first, i have owned the original media for ALL tunes i have subsequently downloaded..
sadly, most all of that original media has crumbled into dust..
from the wax edison tubes to the 14 inch 78 and 33 1/3 RPM discs and the 45 RPM discs to the various tapes..
fortunately, i found those same tunes available online and thus have recreated my antique music collection..
that said, so far, vista (RC2) has not commented on whenther these mp3's are or are not legal or not..
and i have played some..
i just do not go to the web for more info or allow vista to change the MP3's into WMA's or whatever..
one further thought, i think i should send RIAA a bill for some of the recent garbage noise that has intruded itself into my brain, pretending to be music, thus using storage space intended for more useful data..
uhmm, i think any talk about obviously illegal activities should cease..
any quasi legal activities should be kept out of sight..
otherwise, talk away..
