How To Set Swap File To Use RAM First

#1 Post by jamiphar » Tue Feb 06, 2007 11:05 pm

I'm wondering what I can change to make my computer use up the RAM before using the paging file. It seemed to be using a lot of the paging file while running some demanding programs, even though I have 256MB+ RAM free. Wouldn't performance be improved if it used up the RAM before swapping with the hard drive?

I remember its a registry hack you have to do for Windows to use all the ram first. I remember I saw the hack on PC Stats. I'll go there later today to see if I can locate the article that had the registry hack.

Here is the link to the article to edit the registry to make Windows use all of the RAM before using virtual memory. Enjoy the faster performance!

Would there be any reason you would not want to use all the RAM before going to the page file?
I might try try it on my PC running XP with 512MB RAM, barely enough for XP.
