Please help with a typewriter!

#1 Post by zawmoo » Wed Feb 14, 2007 1:35 pm

Hi,

I just bought a vintage electronic typewriter on eBay as I need to type about 2 pages of documents (needs to be typed with a typewriter). It is Smith Corona Deville III Messenger. Made in 1983, before I'm even 10.

Now, I'm typing on this typewriter and everything is fine, except when I press "Return" it doesn't go to the next line. It goes to the beginning of the same line. There is no manual handle I can push like in a manual typewriter. The manual doesn't say anything about going to next line either, probably assumed nobody would be so dumb not to know. So, how do I get this to go to next line  ? I don't think turning the paper feed knob every time is the right way. I've no clue.

Somebody who knows typewriter, please help!

Thank you.

It's a toll free call, so try them...

Just called them. No longer supported for older models. Got a bunch of phone numbers for part dealers instead. Wasn't able to speak to a human being. Just the IVR.

I just need to know what to press to advance a line on a electronic typewriter. I think anybody who have used one before will recall.

Thanks Stargate. I'm trying to figure out if the typewriter from eBay is broken or I just don't know how to use it.

The normal deal with an electric typewriter is that the Return key will advance the paper by the number of lines set on the line spacing control (which had no standard location AFAIK).

You may have the line spacing control set to 0.

You'll have to figure out where the line spacing is controlled on your particular electric typewriter.

Cheers,

Bill

Thank you Bill. I also thought I'm suppose to press Return to advance the paper and it's not doing that. The spacing is set to 1. Not 0. So, my electronic typewriter is broken.

Since I've already left a positive feedback for the seller on eBay and also since the return shipping is too much, I don't think I'll get my money back. $25 down the drain. Oh, well.
