I tried looking for the last discussion on transferring power over the air, but couldn't find it. Either way, this is iPhone related, not ThinkPad.

Those docks exist already, there is a company that makes them for cell phones and other gadgets with rechargeable batteries and certain electric toothbrushes have been using induction mounts for quite some time now. It's quite possible, within a very limited range and, ideally, little interference.

What is very difficult, however, is controlled ranged wireless power transmission for significant amounts of power. Induction certainly isn't going to cut it for larger applications. :)
