Any more Rush fans, nay, worshippers, here?

#1 Post by RUSH2112 » Fri Feb 16, 2007 10:20 pm

Or am I the only one?
- I would probably be fine if you were to delete all the music in my collection except for Rush.
- I have every song on every album (including live ones and excluding compilations), all the video releases (except Anatomy of a Drum Solo), side projects, etc.
- May 1st (Snakes and Arrows release) is going to make my year.
- I go nuts over any reference to Rush (no matter how minor), especially anything involving the number 2112.
- I can quote Rush songs in daily speech, and even in philosophical discussions.
- My Holy Trinity is Geddy, Alex, and Neil.
- I have hit people for putting down Rush.
- I began reading Romantic era poetry because of the song Xanadu
- I've been reading Ayn Rand because of all the references to her in Rush songs.
- When I hear someone refer to "Tom Sawyer", I think of the song before the book
- Whenever I see dice, I think of Roll the Bones
- Whenever I look at the stars, one of the things that comes to mind is Cygnus X-1 (the other is Star Trek)
- If I ever get a dog, its name is going to be By-Tor. If I get another, it will be called "Snow Dog"
- Rush has restored my faith in Canada
- Bald-headed people remind me of the Rush song "I think I'm going bald"
- I knew the song Earthshine before I knew what earthshine actually is
- I want a Ferrari 166MM just so I can have that brilliant Red Barchetta

By the way, all of that is at least 95% true about me. Bet you can't beat that...

Ah now I get it...Never made the connection with the Spirit of Radio. Great song but hardly my favorite. My favorites are
2112
Freewill
By-Tor & The Snow Dog
Roll the Bones
Tom Sawyer
Subdivisions
Bastille Day
The Trees
Cygnus X-1 Book II

(Not necessarily in that order except 2112 being first...the best song ever written imo)

Rush really doesn't get the credit they deserve. Neil's drums, Alex's guitars, Geddy's bass and vocals...it really just makes for an immortal mix. Its like Viagra for my ears.

Ah yes ... the good old days of CFNY! Great song, and one of the best radio stations ever. Sadly, today's CFNY is no Spirit of Radio ...

Rush really doesn't get the credit they deserve.
I agree, but no Distant Early Warning on the list?

By the way, my username is actually a combination of The Spirit of Radio and my first ThinkPad (X21).

I actually enjoy Rush...they were a very influential band in their time, and even today. HOWEVER, it is the ONLY band that my wife will complain about me listening to. There was a DJ up here in WI that was obsessed with Rush, and overplayed them.

I'm much more a fan of the earlier stuff. Don't get me wrong, I still love the Grace Under Pressure era stuff, but if epanded my list to those songs, it would be 50 songs long. BTW, Red Sector A is the best off of GUP imo.

I just love the pounding guitars, "early" Geddy schrill (YES WE KNOW, ITS NOTHING NEW!!...), the Ayn Rand-ian influence and everything. Give me 2112, AFTK, or Hemispheres over any other Rush album, period.

You must virtually live on YouTube trying to keep up with all the vids of their performances that keep getting uploaded.

How many are they up to now, 10 or 11K?

To Rush or not to Rush.....

#10 Post by dorronto » Sat Feb 17, 2007 10:53 am

My two cents worth...............Rush is ok. Not bad, but I'm definitely not a worshiper.......

Now BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN.............now that would be much closer to worship. Sorry. I guess I'm a little older that you....

I just had to mention THE BOSS......it seemed only fair....

Actually Rush started performing in 1968, a year earlier than The Boss. 8)

Correct.........but we're talking quality, in my opinion, that's all..

Quality ... well, at least as far as music goes, that's largely in the ear of the beholder, so I really wasn't going to argue about that. Just pointing out that Rush did debut earlier than Springsteen, which doesn't really match the "older than" comment you made.

Oh, I was just stating that I thought I was older than RUSH2112, that's all. Also, I didn't realize that Rush started in 1968. I assumed later. Thanks for the info. And yes, music appreciation is in the ears of the beholder.

Well, I'm 18, so odds are that you are older than me.
Rush's first album was in 1974, so even though they "started" in '68, they really didn't "officially" start until 74.

I like Springsteen, but I need more guitar than that.
