LCD Problem: changing colors and no regular screen

#1 Post by pasco » Wed Feb 21, 2007 10:44 am

I know this is a Thinkpads forums, but the basics of one laptop are pretty much the same as others...

My Compaq Evo N800C has a LCD problem....

Instead of the normal screen it shows me red points all over, changes color from blue to white to black, blue...and so on..and on the right side it has 2 vertical lines, a green and pink one, I think.
Sometimes there are also horizontal big lines...

If I connect my Notebook to an external Screen, everything is fine!
So it must be some issue with my LCD. I've already checked the cables from the mainboard to the LCD and un- und replugt them. No change :-(.

Has anyone an idea what and where the problem is and how to solve that?

thx a lot!
so long,
p@sco

A couple things you could try:
1. Remove and check cables on the LCD itself (not the mainboard/LCD connection).
2. Replace the inverter

Not quite sure if the inverter is the problem since that controls the backlight. It sounds like its most likely the connection to the LCD itself. Compaqs are a pain to take apart. There should be 4 screws on the side of the lid, plus two or three that the bezel in place. These may be hidden with by plastic, or rubber circles, or a strip of plastic that can be removed. Once everything is free, pull back the LCD, reset the video and power back on. Don't put anything back together until you are sure everything is working so you have easy access to all the parts. Good Luck!
I have finally rejoined the dark side.
