Looks pretty swanky. However, my 4 year old natural media keyboard is still kickin' so I am going to stick with this until the space bar completely dies.

$150's too steep for this college student. My Thinkpad keyboard will have to suffice.

Looks pretty cool, but as dr_st points out, no numeric keypad! In the words of Donnie Brasco: "Forget about it!"

How about the fact that the bloody thing's right handed?

Darned inconvenient for those of us who put the mouse on the left side of the keyboard and swap the buttons.

And, as someone else said, where's the number pad?[/b]

I'll stick with the Model M I paid about $3 for back in 2001. Ever since giving the thing a thorough inside and out cleaning and replacing a bunch of the springs last year, it's worked better than anything else I've owned.

It doesn't have buckling springs, thus it doesn't go CLACK CLACK CLACK. It is, therefore, an inferior keyboard.

And no, it doesn't suck just because it's Microsoft. I love my (now-discontinued... grumble... I wish I had thought to buy spares) MS Optical Trackball Explorer. But, the Model M (or the Unicomp) is the way to go.

Considering the fact that 90% of the advanced mice are right-handed, I'm not surprised that the trend continues to keyboards too.

P.S. I'm right-handed, but I prefer symmetric mice, because they place the 4th and 5th buttons on different sides, which I like.

Keyboard

#11 Post by schen » Thu Mar 08, 2007 2:20 am

IBM/Lenovo has yet to see fit to build my dream keyboard. I want a wireless (RF or Bluetooth) that has the Trackpoint! I'd would so buy that in a heartbeat for my desktop! :D
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

I've had several of those over the years and although I agree that they are great. Extra-long cord, indestructable, great key feel.... I've always been able to type faster and more accurately (I did say more, not absolutely) on the shorter traveled ThinkPad KBs. If I was able to design a KB for myself, it would be the current UltraNav KB without the touchpad, but with the big wristrest, numberpad and wireless. Did I mention that I HATE TOUCHPADS!!! I'm better now.

Unfortunately, Lenovo isn't taking my calls at the moment....

My office desktop features two Unicomp black PC104 keyboards (Unicomp bought the buckling spring patent from Lexmark after IBM spun them off... it's nothing more than a current-production Model M, black in color, with Windows keys). My home desktop, same thing. IBM just did keyboards right... Model M on the desktop, and the classic Thinkpad keyboards for the laptop.

And, I can still use my keyboard as a LART. :P

I'll just stick to my IBM Rapid Access II keyboard. It has media keys, shortcut buttons, browser forward and back buttons (in the same place as you would find them on Thinkpads with those keys), and a NUMBER PAD! I like the design of that Microsoft, but for it to be a desktop keyboard, you must have a number pad.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I have the original Rapid Access KB that only had drivers through W98 so it has a bunch of keys that do nothing. If it had newer drivers, I'd still be using it today; instead, it sits in the closet.

I'll have to look up Unicomp. Right now, I'm using one of the Logitech wireless rigs and it does a good job... it's just not an IBM.

You can sign me up for one as well. I find it disappointing and very hard to believe they do not already produce a wireless/bluetooth version with Trackpoint, possibly a finger print reader and minus the Trackpad. Now that would be sweet!

Until they do, I'll stick with my trusty Model M.
