Do you post to the forum on a WM5 smartphone?

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Mon Mar 05, 2007 8:06 am

I love my T-Mobile Dash (Windows Mobile 5), but one thing I can't do is post on this forum (or any phpBB forum for that matter).

I can bring up the reply or new topic page, but once I'm finished typing my message and hit submit, it brings the text I typed back into the text editor. It was quite frustrating trying to respond to a WTB ad over the weekend, but couldn't get the PM through.

Anyone else having this problem?

This is just a thought, but did you try disabling BBCode on the reply screen (this sits just underneath all the Smilies under OPTIONS) and see if that makes a difference. It will take away most of your Rich Text Editor. I can post okay using WM5 on my Axim when on this website, but on a phone perhaps it is different?

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

Disabling BB code was actually my first step, as it seemed "obvious" what the problem was. I really hope the WM6 upgrade will fix this.

When I enter text, it's only on one line, much like a subject line. There is no text box like you see typing from a computer.

Oh, I see; I get the entire page on my Axim, looks exactly like on my laptop.

I found two messageboards dealing with problems with the Dash, perhaps something may help you? It is the same problem but with different replies:

Update: I found this thread and it details the same problem you are having on a Dash, the solution they say is to buy Opera Mini browser for the phone:

Here's the browser download: http://www.operamini.com/download/

Hope it helps :D

Thanks for doing all the work for me!

I will look into using Opera, as I can get a free version. You've been very helpful.

Awesome that you can get it free. I'm having a slow day here at work this morning, so it has been a pleasure researching. Let us know if it works.

I have the same problem on the Motorola Q. Basically the PIE on a Smartphone is so slim that they have disabled some of the basic functions of a browser. The part that is missing is a Data(or Document, I can't remember) Object Module.

http://www.webxcope.com/ is a website that was suggested on Q Users.com I haven't tried it personally, but some of the foamers over there said it worked pretty well.

you aren't the only one busy at work.. mini works fine and is free.. typing on my phone now.

edit: (from computer :) )
Mini runs over WAP, which is why it's free. Opera Mobile is what costs $24.

Yippee, that's great news! I did download a free trial of Opera onto my Axim but haven't made the money plunge yet. I truly haven't had any limitations with my PIE yet to make me switch, I just love to try out new software.

Now that I'm using WAP, I'll have to keep an eye on my T-Mobile bill. They've had a loophole where you could pay for their $5.99 internet plan, change proxy settings, and have access like you would under their $30 internet plan. They're catching on, so we'll see...
