A new fan for my PC... very quiet

#1 Post by K. Eng » Mon Mar 05, 2007 10:02 pm

I have had the worst luck with CPU fans in my desktop system. Every year, the fan seems to get all noisy.

I went from a stock AMD fan, to an Antec microfin fan (which clogged like crazy), to a solid Copper Kingwin (the fan made horrible noises after a few months), and now I'm on a ThermalTake TR2-M3.

The ThermalTake is a bit of a downgrade from the Kingwin in that it is Aluminum instead of Copper, but it has a bigger 80mm fan. This seems to make a difference. My idle temps are 1 or 2 C lower. Most importantly, the 80mm fan spins at 2500RPM, versus 4400 RPM for the Kingwin and 4800RPM for the Antec.

Silence is nice :)
