#1 Post by alfio » Tue Mar 13, 2007 12:14 am

i scanned the off topic posts for something on the NCAA tournament to no avail... are we thinkpadders not interested in college hoops?

People will turn it on when it's get down to 4. I'm really not interested since no local teams were deemed "good" enough to make it.

i hope that's not the case. there's some really good matchups this year and it would be interesting to get a healthy debate going. maybe it's because i've seen more pre-tournament games than usual this year -- or maybe its the mediocrity/parity of sports in general -- but it seems like there's lots of room for early upsets this year, or at least more so than the last few tourneys.

Don't forget the Florida gators - it was so wild last year when we won  !

sorry gator but a repeat is highly unlikely... although i didn't want florida to win last year, the upside of them getting far this year would be a nice reward for the noahs et al who decided to stay in school rather than jump to the pros

oh no, i agree, i think the gators little 'slip' at the end of the season did them a lot of good. people no longer see them as favorites and the pressure is way down. but, history says that repeats are impossible (or all but impossible -- its not been done in the modern format if i'm not mistaken). that's what i meant.

IIRC, the last repeat champion was Duke :x in 1992.

after my buckeyes broke my heart in football i saw some light in basketball, but as "good" as they are hyped I dont think they have what it takes to win it all. Dont get me going on the gators either! They have as much chance as the buckeyes have of winning which isnt very good IMO. If the gators win it all I will drink the water out of my toilet!!

Drexel should have made the cut, other than that no one else was deemed worthy this year. If you're Jonesing to see one of the Big 5 other than Penn and Villanova, you'll have to go to the Palestra.

Duke out in the first round. Has that ever happened before? Great win for VCU.

This NCAA tournament is the best. No three week build-up or playoff schedule.

Krzyzewski has always seemed to be a very correct guy -- perhaps too correct, even a bit neurotic and reactionary at times (some of that came out quite clearly after last year's loss. can't say that i feel bad about him or his fellow dukies...

agreed! also, and in stark contrast to other leagues--professional and not--the tournament doesn't usually suffer from the scandalous refereeing and/or game fixing common elsewhere.

2 Ohio teams battling it out today, 1 of the best games ive seen in college ball in awhile. Its sad that 1 had to lose, but Im glad the bucks won. That was a good win for them especially in overtime without Oden. But they played a good part of the beginning of the season without him so no real surprise. GO BUCKS!

that georgetown game was crazy!!!

overall, i'm not doing so hot anymore. i've lost texas a&m a round early but my final four are still in the running (florida, kansas, ohio st., and north carolina).

i know, that got scary for a while. i really like them for champs (even though i am no tar heel fan). let's see if they can overcome SC's flexibility.

Lots of good games. As an Ohio native, I would have to say the Buckeyes look as good as anyone.

after going 15/16 into the sweet 16, i took a big hit yesterday with UNC getting knocked out and entered the final round 2/4 with my two finalists out.

now all i have left is to cheer against my least favorite teams :)
