I am thinking about a new computer. Warning to all: I am a very slow thinker - so slow in fact, that nothing may happen.
I am considering two alternatives for this idea:
1. Sony Viao: Vista only (apparently); 40Gb hard drive; 1.2 pounds; 1.2 inches thick; 1000x600 screen (implied native resolution)
2. OQO: Vista or XP Pro; 60 Gb hard drive; < 1 pound; 1 inch thick; 800x480 stated native resolution.
My preference runs to the OQO; however the native resolution is a downer. I almost bought the model 1 (and did not) and now the model 2 is much better and much brighter overall.
The Sony screen appears to be better (but I cannot find a stated native resolution). Vista may well obviate the need to stay at native resolution. The small hard drive is a downer, and the machine is thicker, heavier, and chunkier than the OQO.
I am truly interested in opinions; however, be advised that (1) I may do nothing, and (2) I will eventually toss my own coin.
Note: I have a Toshiba Libretto 50 that I have used and still works, so I am acquainted with these small computers and keyboards.
Thanks, ... JD Hurst

Re: Thinking of a new computer
Is this one of the currently available UX series models? Then the resolution is 1024x600, and the screen size is 4.5". If I had the money, I would get the Sony because the OQO's 800x480 is too low indeed. However, according to this (scroll down to see the comparison table), the OQO supports a higher external display res.jdhurst wrote:1. Yes, that is a major holdback here. Otherwise I like the OQO. It would be a third and travelling computer. My next work computer will the a Vista ThinkPad when the time comes. ... JD Hurstpianowizard wrote:<snip>
