Alternative to Thinkpad with a bright screen?

After 4 T-series Thinkpads, I have finally had it with these lame screens. On my flight yesterday I could barely read my T43p because the window shade was open. Walking down the aisle, I see a dozen Mac's and PC's with beautiful bright screens.

Where does a Thinkpad refugee go to get a highly reliable, well supported laptop with a modern screen?
