access connection troubles

#1 Post by georgeb » Mon Mar 26, 2007 2:18 pm

put this in off topic because i'm not sure where else it should go...

i've got this ongoing trouble with access connection on my thinkpad (and not on my housemate's ibook). it has trouble with establishing wi-fi connection when coming back. the icon with the little bars shows a red X through it and the wifi radio seems to be off. the only way to get it to reconnect is to go through disconnect-->connect in access connections and then it works OK until the next round of stand-by.

any way to avoid this problem?

btw, i'm running access connections 4.23 and i have a cisco b/g card.

Lots of people apparently solve their problem by uninstalling AC and using the Windows built-in function instead.

Probably the most appropriate forum for this question would have been the Thinkpad - General HARDWARE/SOFTWARE questions forum. I or one of the other moderators can move it there if you like. There are already a plethora of threads on Access Connections, with many threads in the T4x and T60 series forums.

First check the following: Open Access Connections and click on the menu choice: Configure > Global Settings..., and make sure box is checked: "Enable automatic wireless LAN radio control".

If the above does not fix your problem, then I do not have a definite solution. If you want to use Access Connections, then I would uninstall Access Connections, then uninstall your Cisco wireless adapter driver. Reboot, cancel any found hardware wizards, then reinstall your Cisco wireless adapter driver, reboot and reinstall Access Connections. This usually fixes most problems. You also might want to try: How to recover from Winsock2 Corruption.

Here is a thread that covers Access Connection fixes pretty well. You can also search the forum with the Search Button at the top of the page to look for possible information to fix your problem. Generally most searches work best when the Search for all terms radio button is selected.

Be sure you are using the correct wireless driver version. See following page. Links to the wireless drivers are on the page.

In the end, perhaps you may be better off following realblackstuff's advice.
