tv tuner card: USB or ExpressCard/54 slot?

i'm looking for a TV tuner card and i'm wondering if i can finally get a gadget for the oh so lonely ExpressCard/54 slot on my T43 -- actually, i'd like to know if there are any advantages (speed, stability, etc.) to using the express slot over the USB.

(note: this is for use during my research trip in south america so no need to worry about HDTV)
