I Have Officially Defected

#1 Post by 3nigma » Sat Apr 14, 2007 1:52 am

Hello all,

I am sincerely unhappy to say this.

Truly.

I have defected to the seductive MacBook.

It is mostly due to the Mac OS, so they are like comparing apples and oranges. I would never compare any Apple product to have build quality anywhere near the ThinkPads. However, the MacBook package is too perfect to turn away.

Perfect portability with 13.3" screen, while still squeezing more screen space in to edge toward 14".
Beautiful gloss screen (opinionated subject, no need to debate)
Built-in web-cam, which I used for a 4-way video chat today, including with my brother overseas
Mac OS X - Makes everyday computing tasks genuinely fun and enjoyable, even the mundane things

Hopefully I will still be able to get a ThinkPad when the T61 comes out, but I will still install Mac OS X on it.

My apologies to my diehard ThinkPad peers, but I had to get it off my chest.

hehe...I appreciate really well engineered products, and Apple always has high regards in my opinion. I have used macs for most of my computer needs until recently, and I must say, OS X is simply amazing. I can never really get away from my trusty ibook no matter what comes out.

With that said, I am also sold on thinkpad build quality, service, and support. I know, OSX on a Thinkpad has been done, but I will only really consider it really perfect if Lenovo and Apple (read: probably never) sell a Thinkmac. Maybe then it wouldnt be so hard to change out hard/optical drives like on my ibook!

My thread has been modded twice by two different moderators who apparently don't agree where it belongs, both within 8 hours of each other.

First it was posted in the "T6X series", because it contrasts my decision specifically with buying a T60/T61 laptop. I still feel this is where it belongs best, for good discussion.

It was then modded to "General ThinkPad Hardware". Less applicable, but at least somewhat related.

Now, it has apprently been modded to "Off Topic"? Just because I am talking about a MacBook in contrast to a T6X series, that doesn't mean bundle my thread into the pile of "What's your eBay name" and "New World Record 300+MPH!!!".

Come on, this is ridiculous. Can a mod please fix this for me? This is good conversation to get good dialogue started on the direction of the T6X series, in contrast to the competition.

Thanks,
3nigma

This belongs in Off Topic because you discuss far more about Macs.
ThinkPad user and ThinkPads.com member since summer, 2006. That was a good summer.

I moved it out of the t60 forum last night after you posted it, and shortly thereafter you slammed the mod team. While I believe complaints are part of life, and we must respect your dislike, I think your're taking it a bit far.

I like MAC too, and use it quite frequently for certain network environments, but there is no reason to start an OS war over it, that is not allowed. If you read through the OSX forum you'll find a lot of us like it but windows is not going away, so join the MAC crowd, there is a couple of great mac forums that I go to occasionally, and believe me they are HEAVILY moderated.

Uhh, I never started any OS war, LOL.

On the contrary, I actually said "It's comparing apples and oranges," to deliberately curb any attempts for people to derail the conversation into an OS war.

Your comments don't apply.

I'm pretty sure everyone who read this post knows what you are saying. It's not hard to read into it. I think you would have been better off putting it straight into the OSX forum, where there is a lot of discussion of the OS.

Final moderation.
