Search feature

#1 Post by vinuneuro » Thu Apr 19, 2007 3:23 pm

I just started posting here yesterday, and this is a fantastic forum! One thing I immediately noticed was that one can't be specific in searching only thread topic titles. I think adding that feature would make searching much more efficient as search results are pretty vague right now.

Searching by thread topic is only as good as how the originating poster phrases it. Since the board is based on phpBB, it's limited in how the search functions and there's only so much you can do with modifications. I have found that it helps to keep these things in mind when searching:

- use the "Search for all terms" option
- use the wildcard "*"
- don't try constructing boolean searches (AND or OR); keep it simple
- think about the term you are looking for and use synonyms
- limit the search to specific forums if you get too many hits

What specifically are you looking for?

When I was searching for problems regarding my screen/video issue problems, I was getting tons of results but most of them were irrelevant. I did search only in the T4x forum. Will try the wildcard next time. I'm just used to usually searching the topic title. This is only a minor setback in an otherwise outstanding board! :thumbs-UP:
