NOD32 with ZoneAlarm, anyone?
I am having a problem running Eset's NOD32 antivirus version 2.70.32 with ZoneAlarm's firewall version 7, together.
Firstly, ZoneAlarm does not even detect the presence of NOD32 at all. Secondly, I'm getting alot of false positive warnings from ZoneAlarm and it's functioning pretty abnormally too. Thirdly, my Windows XP is getting a weird feeling again and again that somehow Zonealarm has been shutoff, which is certainly not.
I have already checked my system for viruses/spywares/trojans etc. and also have uninstalled/installed the antivirus and firewall but I'm just out of luck.
I like to know if there's anyone using this cobmination of softwares
and experiencing any problems?
Thanks.

Your TP would run better by dumping ZA and installing the small-footprint free Comodo firewall instead.
ZA integrates itself way too deep into XP for my liking. When you uninstall it, clean up the registry as well, before you install a new firewall.

I am a ZAs' fan. I've tried this before and and turn-out this combination doesn't work very well, means buggy and lagging. U're using the free ed. of ZA 7, right? If so, toss it and use the latest free version of ZA 6. The best version of ZA 7 so far as I've tested with my T60 is ZA AntiVirus 7.0.337.000 with the new Kaspersky engine. Memory usage is average, but efficient. Its default configuration is nicely set and go, from the av to the fw in the package, and yes it did the job, especially the av. ZA 7 have Auto-Learn and Gaming Mode which I also like, a lot. I went back to the Program Control and Components, delete all in the 2 lists (click the 1st item, scroll to the last, shift-click to choose all - press delete - Yes) once a while and reset to Auto-Learn to clear stuff out, but works nicely, no question asked.ryengineer wrote:I am having a problem running Eset's NOD32 antivirus version 2.70.32 with ZoneAlarm's firewall version 7, together.
Don't worry about ZA not detecting NOD32, just check-it off in ZA, save a bit resource from useless task, really. ZA doesn't detect most of av., i've experienced.
Comodo, no for me, somehow it lagged my pc and connection and although my 1st impression for it is: nice, but no.
I don't think it's "that" deep, I uninstalled - reinstalled ZA versions all the time and only 1 reboot needed but that's it. Yes ZA saves your license key in the registry to save you the trouble for having to insert the key everytime if you purchased one, but you can easily clear it yourself but that's it. It's not like Norton, u know.ZA integrates itself way too deep into XP for my liking. When you uninstall it, clean up the registry as well, before you install a new firewall.
I like the upload and download spectrum red-green icon from ZA, too, personally.
Good luck,

Re: NOD32 with ZoneAlarm, anyone?
thanks Bill. I will really appreciate that.BillMorrow wrote: i will send a link to this post to the appropriate people at ESET..
Upon other poster's advice I went back to ZA 6 but it's still acting very fishy with NOD32.
I have been using ZoneAlarm firewall products since it's initial release around 7 years ago and have used it exclusively with Symantec and Mcafee AV's with no apparent problem(s) at all, ever. So it's kind of hard, if not impossible, for me to give up on that firewall.
Also, when I saw how efficient NOD32 is I had to ditch other AVs. So, I just like to see ZoneAlarm/NOD32 combination to work properly.

That would be nice, too.ryengineer wrote:Also, when I saw how efficient NOD32 is I had to ditch other AVs. So, I just like to see ZoneAlarm/NOD32 combination to work properly.
