anyone with a x40 and hdd adapter? help!

#1 Post by dorin » Mon May 14, 2007 4:31 am

hi guys,

does any of you tried to put a 7200hdd into the ultrabay adapter from x40?! did it boot with it inside? if not, and you can do it, can you PLEASE do it?!

i have an 7200 hdd but i cannot boot with it nor in windows, it kills the fan everytime the 7200 is in. and before buying another one (this is an old hdd) i want to know if 7200 in ultrabay and x40's are compatible.

i called ibm and first time they've told me its not supported according to a particular document, then i realised they've missed a star mentioning which totally changed the problem, today i called them and the guy had no idea, he told me first that it is not possible to boot from ultrabay hdd adapter, than that i can use only 4200hdd and when i told him boot for almost 3 months from a 5400hdd in ultrabay he said he'll call me back. never did...

thanks alot,

dorin

FWIW, an X60s boots from a SATA Ultrabay adapter with a Hitachi 7k100 drive in an X6 Ultrabase and a blank primary HD bay.

Of course there are no problems booting from Ultrabay using normal Ultrabays (T60p, R52, T42).

thanks bontistic, but x60 uses the nomal 2.5" hdds not the retarded 1.8" hdd which x40 is tied to.

i have a 5400 in ultrabay, and i feel a big improvement in speed, now i just want a 7200..would be lovely, but i dont want to buy another hdd and to have surprises...i had one but still i dont know if its the hdd (also acer doenst boot from it) of compatibility
