Very nice. I am sitting on 210,800 or so miles on my 1997 Corolla which translates to approximately 339k kilometers. Bought it as a demo 1 year old with 5k miles on it for a little under $12k. Definately paid for itself already!!

(plus I had to get into this posters from PA thread - LOL)

That's only a handful of years commuting here in the great northeast!

We average around 20K miles annually on most of our vehicles, especially the one my wife uses for work.

Unlike over there, a few hours behind the wheel over here at 75MPH or more on the interstates can rack up some serious miles on any given day. We're heading off to Washington, DC next Friday on a daytrip, down and back in one day, approx. 160 miles each way. Something like London to Cardiff and return.

Question?

Does Pennsylvania = high mileage and old cars? Just curious the direction this post is going..............

I'm enjoying it anyway. My 2000 Saturn only has 113,00 miles! Practically brand new.........

I just bought my brothers '02 Saturn SC2 off of him, with 34,000 on the Odo. Crappy interior quality, but it should run a while. You always said "try to get one with a warranty," right? It's got 6 months left!

That Nissan Sunny with the 64K miles on it is actually my wife's car.
I sold my own car, and started driving her car after she went ahead of me to PA.
I used to do an average of nearly 120'000 KM / 75'000 miles per year between 1976 and 1999.
We were living in Switzerland then, and I was contracting all over the country (as an IBM mainframe analyst/programmer).
When we moved to Ireland in 1999 I took a permanent position locally, without the need for commuting. What a relief!
But when I'm moving to PA in August, I'll be looking for the comfort of probably a low-mileage Buick LeSabre or Lucerne.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

For real?

I was just trying to figure out if your comma was off one spot, or if you forgot a zero..

13,000 or 130,000 (more likely).

:D So in other words, he left off a zero at the end, right? Amazing the power of the brain to interpret things, when I read that the first time, I really did read it as 113,000.

Currently the average price is €1.10 per liter, or 1.10 x 3.78 = €4.16/US gallon or converted, $5.60/US gallon.
The majority of cars in Ireland have an engine size of between 1.0 and 1.4 liter, due to outrageous road tax and insurance prices.
Example: a 19 year old male buys a used car for €2,000.-, but his insurance will be between €4,000.- and €5,000.- per year!
Only once you are over 23 and have 4-5 years accident-free do you get reasonable rates.
This Republic Of Ireland (or ROI) is actually better known as Rip-Off-Ireland.

Same over here. It's beyond ridiculous really, I guess if you're a male under 25 then you have to be a bad driver... it's unpatriotic not to be.

I get back at them by not buying a car at all... 8)

Hey! They're over a half a century now!

@dsigma6: Please double check my math in this post :)

Sorta returning to the main topic...

Good thing (??) I have two daughters. Car insurance is bad enough with the 19 year old down in La-La Land driving a 12 year old Grand Cherokee (with one minor accident and one traffic ticket). The almost-16 year old is now making noise about taking driver ed. I'm just thinking what it could have been if I threw (spawned?) sons.

And Ray, I tried really hard to find something wrong with your math, but I can't. Seriously, I'm crunching numbers hoping for SOMETHING!

Yes, but those are Old Fogey rates Dan.

After two speeding tickets my under 25YO unmarried son (at the time) was up to $5100 per year for his SAAB!
