Own IP keeps showing up in inbound events log (McAfee)

#1 Post by hoplite » Thu May 17, 2007 10:20 am

I recently installed McAfee Firewall as an interim solution until June when the new Comodo Firewall comes out for Vista.

I was looking at my logs the other day and I noticed that I have a series of Inbound events that are trying to access UDP ports and the source IP is my computer.

The events look something like this:

-----

Date/Time
05/17/07 10:00AM

Source IP
192.168.1.101 <----my ip

Host Name
t60.whatever-network-i-am-on.com

Event Information
UDP Port 49583 <--the port changes most of them are above the 20k range.

Details
A computer at <whatever network I am currently on> has attempted an unsolicited connection to you rcomputer. The source IP is 'non routable' IP.

----

They come in sets of 5 or 6 inbound events every 20 minutes or so throughout the day.

I've run or have installed:
Windows Defender
Spyboy S&D
Ad Aware
Blacklight Rootkit Scanner
AVG Free Edition

My OS is Vista Business.

Everything comes up clean and my HiJack this log looks ok. I can't figure out:

1. What is causing this?
2. If this is cause for concern?

Anyone have any ideas?

I don't see how this problem is connected to T6x machine.

My suggestion is Mcafee forum would be better able to help you out.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Sorry mods. I guess this is the wrong forum.

The reason I posted it here is that I have very similar set ups on four other machines. The only machine that I have this problem with is the T60. I thought that maybe another user had this problem as well and it had something to do with something that Lenovo installed.

Cheers.

I did the same! I've always hated McAfee for it's resource hungriness, and thanks for letting me know Comodo is coming to Vista. Can't wait.
