I'd love to see Lenovo making one of these...

Kinda beats the macbook outright, but somehow I get the feeling it is more of a 'toy' than of a lean, mean business machine. Are these real life pics or mock ups?

This thing is even thinner than the Sony Vaio X505 and the Sharp MM20, which are both up to 0.8 inches thick! Slightly heavier than both, but the extra weight is worth it because you get a 12.1" WXGA display (versus 10.4" XGA).
But the Toshiba Portege R100 (which I owned for almost a year) is also 0.7 inches thick. We need to find out how they're rounding off their measurements to see which one is thinner.

Unusable
I entered the ultra thin laptop foray with the Portege, it was a piece of crap. The [censored] thing was so slow it was practically useless for anything but browsing the web and email. Sure technology has improved over the 5 or so years since I bought that laptop, but really... I'd gladly bump up to something like Thinkpad's X or T series to have something useful.
Then again, if they can stuff the power and usability of a T series in that form factor, I'm all for it!!!

It sounds like you used one that had a 1.8" HDD, like the 2.38-lb Portege R100 that I had. If this Intel laptop uses a regular 2.5" HDD, then it won't suffer the same problem.dcdomain wrote:I entered the ultra thin laptop foray with the Portege, it was a piece of crap. Can you realistically fit a 2.5" hard disk (9.5 mm thick in itself) and a keyboard with reasonable key travel in 0.7 inches (18 mm). I have my doubts!
I love portability, but I don't want just a cool toy, I want something that is durable and performs well enough to be my primary system.

X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)
Can't you break a laptop as thin as that easily?

Don't 2.5" HDDs have the exact same thickness as 1.8" HDDs? I am pretty sure they do!tomh009 wrote:Can you realistically fit a 2.5" hard disk (9.5 mm thick in itself) and a keyboard with reasonable key travel in 0.7 inches (18 mm). I have my doubts!

Yeah, the 1.8" 20GB drive in my Archos is the same thickness (9.5mm) as my other drives.pianowizard wrote:Don't 2.5" HDDs have the exact same thickness as 1.8" HDDs? I am pretty sure they do!

They had their own computers at one time. I stupidly passed over getting an Intel desktop years ago. Would be a conversation piece now, at least. They also made graphics workstations too, I think.Turbo Audi wrote:Looks like Intel may come out with their own line of computers. I have been hearing the OS rumor for awhile now.
