What to do in california?

#1 Post by ennma » Sat May 26, 2007 12:46 pm

My situation/location:

San Jose
Public transport only
Interning so have steady income

Target:

Explore San Francisco

I don't like theme parks, it distracts visitors from appreciating the beauty of the city and it inhabitants. So any suggestion as to
any worthwhile activities this coming weekend or any weekend
to spend my limited free time here in California(I love this state)

thanks

Welcome to the Bay Area (temporarily)!

As you may have found out by now, public transportation around here (South Bay/Santa Clara County=Valley Transportation Authority [VTA], Peninsula/San Mateo County=SamTrans and Bay Area Rapid Transit [BART], San Francisco=SF Muni and BART, Rail service=CalTrain) is not as cohesive as some other places. From San Jose to San Francisco, your best bet will probably be CalTrain, unless you like dealing with multiple transportation agencies. Living here all my life, I've only taken VTA Light Rail a couple of dozen times and BART to get up to Oakland (from Fremont). I've never ridden any of the bus or train systems here in the South Bay or in SF.

I was born in SF and moved down the Peninsula when I was 5. There's lots to see and do in the "City"; the obvious turista places:

- Golden Gate Bridge
- Coit Tower
- TransAmerica Pyramid
- Chinatown
- North Beach
- Embarcadero/Fisherman's Wharf

and some stuff off the beaten track/out of town:

- Crissy Field/Marina Green
- Golden Gate Park
- San Francisco Zoo
- Ocean Beach
- Marin Headlands (North side of GG Bridge)
