I noticed on one pic that the VGA port is blocked when you use a security cable...interesting.

This is a pretty kewl laptop, but it really seems more like a hybrid laptop/PDA...

Very cool idea, as long as these things don't threaten to reduce consumer notebooks to email/myspace/party pix machines.

Would I get one? Well, not as long as guys like Asiafish keep blowing out amazing real computers for the same price... ;)

I doubt it. There are already millions of sub-$100 laptops everywhere. I just got a near-mint, maxed out 570E with ultrabase for $67 shipped.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

Yeah - for some reason I can't see the $199 price tag being sustainable or as realistic as one might think. And I'd imagine that it would probably sell in Australia for a price equivalent to maybe twice as much (for which I could of course snag a good T4x).

Looks like an interesting concept, but unless I was given one, I'd be hesitant to buy one.

Nice as it was, the 570E is still old. I was also being a little general in meaning laptops like these. When new ones of this class sell for less that $100, I think it will be as big a change as cellphones were.

But I think this Asus is a severely crippled computer. Like I said in the other thread about this $199 unit, it's very similar to those handheld PCs that NEC and HP made several years ago. They can do most of the basic things that the average computer user needs to do, but most people would still prefer a full-fledged laptop. Not surprisingly, NEC and HP stopped making those devices about three years ago.

Wow, great. I think I would buy one. I currently have the NEC 900C and I like it.

The only drawback is the battery. 3-hour is too short. I would expect at least 8 hours.

I do not see the size of the keyboard. Hopefully it is a full size keyboard.

The screen is only around 7"-ish, so keyboard should be pretty small.
