Herman Miller Aeron chair question

#1 Post by Dimitri_P » Fri Jul 13, 2007 3:37 am

I'm not sure if i get spoiled or not, but is there a better, more comfortable office chair than HM Aeron?

Well ... there is alwaysa better one! :)

Personally, I quite like the Aeron, but it's not out of this world for me, and the price rather is. I have a slight preference for the Global Obusforme, and with the right fabric choice, I prefer its looks, too.

But a chair is a very, very personal thing -- maybe even more so than the choice of notebook!

I had heard of the Herman Miller Aeron chair, but not of the Global Obusforme. I went to Google Image search and I see there are several models of the Global Obusforme. Which one is your favorite tomh009?

I've got a low-back multi-tilter at home:

I had essentially the same model for about 10 years at the office, but our chairs got replaced by different models now. :(

When I was looking at the various Obusforme models a little while ago, the 4432 is the one that most appealed to me - the same one you have.

I've had a HM Aeron chair for years (I'm 6'2" and have a size "C"). Its wonderful, it feels like I'm sitting in a little hammock.

I highly recommend the newer lumbar support ("PostureFit") with the butterfly pad.

There are two issues that I would like to see improved. There is no head support, and occasionally I need to shift my legs when the front bar clips circulation in my thighs.

I noticed Al Gore sitting in an interesting chair at his office but haven't yet figured out what it is:

I've seen that picture few days ago; didn't pay attention to the chair...

Will investigate.

Since Gore uses the chair it should be called the Humanscale Commie Chair. Just a thought.

Thanks, it seems they're in NYC, maybe I'll check them out...

I hope their chair works better than their site...

Maybe we need to create a separate political discussion area? :(

Shortly put - I'm no longer using Aeron :) Headrest is just such a comfortable thing to have, plus gel seat feels better to me.

-----------------------------------------

I got it on bay are craigslist, new for $650

It came with gel seat, gel armrests, and headrest, pretty much, upgraded version. FYI, get advanced gel arm rest with textile - will feel better, mine are not textile

I'm 6.3 and that's pretty much the upper absolute limit for the chair, because headrest won't extend past that. chair looks a bit wider than Aeron, so it will definitely fit bigger people than Aeron C.

Adjustable arms are ok, don;t really use them. Headrest and gel seat makes the most difference; but I think default foam seat should be fine too.

------------------------------

If interested i can giv econtact info of that guy in East bay, he might get few more, but that's it; I think he's helping his friend to close the furniture store.

/D.

Fair enough, though I don't know if I would miss not having the "hammock" effect... I think I'm going to have to demo one before committing...

Was shipping easy? My chair came on a LTL freight carrier, quite the big box...

I picked it up locally.

Not sure about shipping.

Demo it at the store.

That's a bold statement. Was sitting in both chairs part of your "bunch of research"?

After visiting Humanscale NYC. I can definitely say I prefer the Aeron.

While I like the headrest on the Humanscale chair, the Aeron has better lumbar support with the butterfly attachment, is more adjustable, and has forward mobility the Humanscale chairs lack.
