I actually find the lenovo-era volume buttons better than the T4x and T2x era buttons. Atleast the T6x buttons are easier to press.pianowizard wrote: You know, I once complained about that same part of the keyboard of my X60s and T60, citing it as evidence that Thinkpad quality had gone downhill after Lenovo took over. But subsequently, I realized that I had never inspected IBM-era Thinkpads equally carefully, and when I started doing that, many IBM-made units displayed the same issue.

For pure sexiness, it has to be the X2x (the S30 doesn't count, because it wasn't available in the US. Besides, it broke the ThinkPads Must Always Be Matte Black rule. Too contrarian.
) There was actual STYLING there. It even LOOKED thinner than it was due to that styling.
X3x looks kinda ugly, X4x was as slim as they could get it (and didn't look as slim as the X2x, despite actually being slimmer,) and ditto for X6x.
However, I'll have to vote X6xt for my favorite. Why? Great processors, runs much cooler than an X2x, rollcage construction, and SXGA+. Oh, and they managed to get the 2.5" hard drive back in.
As for my LEAST favorite models... styling-wise, it'd have to be the early 700 series. Sure, back then, that was styling, but nowadays, that's just a box. Feature-wise, it'd have to be the T61 and R61 - no more 4:3 for consumers. Quality-wise, I'll vote R5x, but there could be other models I'm missing. And, technology-wise... I'll actually go for the X2x. The CPUs were good, but the chipsets were annoying, soldered RAM compounded that issue, and the LOUSY ATI graphics sucked even harder.

The T4x is definitely mine. I had a T2x series back in the days and loved that thing to death also. I eventually sold it but i wish i didn't. I later got a Dell C610 used for a nice deal so had that and liked it too but after seeing a T40 at my job oneday i was OMG. Compared to the Dell it was much lighter and nicer and all that. I just hda to have one. I went on a hunt to find a nice deal. got a T41 for $450 which was super good at the time, i later sold that and got a T42 (using that now) and i'm in perfect heaven with this machine. Everything a guy could want.

I hate to be that picky. you can call me crazy. i think that the silver paint just doesn't go with the theme. i also don't like the way they changed the shape of the new buttons.pianowizard wrote:mattbiernat wrote:2. volume, power and thinkvantage buttons also don't seem to be mounted very well.

I may have to agree with you on this. Whenever I move my R50p at work in and out of the drawer, I need to be VERY careful. It just feels so fragile. Actually, both of my R50p's feel fragile.bhtooefr wrote:As for my LEAST favorite models... Quality-wise, I'll vote R5x

My R51e has one failed hinge (well, the chassis surrounding the hinge - the hinges themselves will never fail) one about to fail, multiple other locations where there's chassis damage, and the motherboard is failing, too.
Before the motherboard started failing, I was looking every now and then for a dead T4x to put everything into, for the chassis...
