What does "Grade A refurbished" mean ?

#1 Post by wearetheborg » Tue Aug 14, 2007 8:23 am

I bought a laptop which was said to be of "GRADE A INDUSTRY STANDARD".

What does grade A mean ?

It had a screw missing, and it had some company OS on it.

Where did you buy it from? Every reseller has their own definition, so you should either check their web site or ask them. I bought a "grade A" TP600E from geeks.com 5 years ago and it looked pretty crappy.

Unfortunately, there is no "Industry Standard" for ratings like this.
TP360 • TP365x • i1452 • TP T42 • Intellistation Z Pro

This the grade that comes after SSS; SS; S; AAA and AA.

If it's not written "mint", you must count on luck.

It was from ebay.
Its not mint, but I'm not too broken about it. Screens good, and 20 months of ibm warranty left.

IMO, no refurbished item is worth considering unless it was refurbished by the manufacturer, and even then I bat an eye.

If it's not written "mint", you must count on luck.
And even if it is. "Mint" can mean many things to many people too. The only real insurance would be detailed photos of the actual computer to be sold, but such things are often not forthcoming.

I should have said "Grade A used". It seems to be a corporate laptop.

The way ebay is going, one of these days I expect to buy something in "mint" condition, and find it arrives smelling of mints....
