Bulletproofing.

Just thought some of you here might be interested in bullet proofing your assets, e.g. your body, books, or perhaps your baby.

MJ Safety Solutions is a company banking on irrational fear to push it's bullet resistant Ballistic Bookbag, a 20oz schoolbag with an integrated ballistic panel. From the sales blurb:

Finally there is a product that will help you take an active step towards safeguarding yourself and the people you care about from shooting incidents.

How likely is it that your kids will end up getting shot? According to MJ Safety Solutions' own figures, 229 deaths have occurred in school shooting since 1999. That sounds pretty bad, right? Compare that to 838 deaths caused by falling out of bed in 2003 alone. Or accidental strangulation or suffocation (still in bed): 497 deaths in 2003.

Still, if you have to protect little Johnny from an almost non-existent risk, the Ballistic Bookbag will get the job done. Check the video to see the $175 bag shrugging off 9mm hollow point bullets.

LONDON (AFP) - A company is offering to provide stab-proof school uniforms, lined with the same material used by soldiers, to parents worried about knife crime among youngsters.

BladeRunner, a company based in Romford, has added the Kevlar-lined uniforms to a range of clothing that also includes knife-resistant hooded tops, t-shirts and gloves.

The uniforms, which cost 130 pounds, have been developed amid growing concern about the number of teenagers who have been stabbed to death.

Seven boys aged under 16 have been killed in London so far this year.

Adrian Davis of Bladerunner, told the BBC: "We introduced Kevlar-lined hooded tops earlier this year and off the back of that a few parents asked us if we could alter school uniforms to make them stab proof.

"So we are offering the service on a private, individual basis."

Kevlar is a light synthetic substance that can be spun into a material that is five times stronger than steel and is used by soldiers for body armour.

If my kids were going to a really bad high school (for example Hollywood High) and I lived in a really bad neighberhood and had no car I would consider something.

WTF???? That video is really a joke, isn't it?

But you know that Brazil was the world leader in armored car producing in the beginning of this decade? Even now we hold the 2nd position due to red light paranoia. The richer who can afford this don't hesitate to make their vehicle bullet-proof.

So I think that a vest, a bag or a stroller could find their market around here.
