Does It Annoy You When...
you have friends or co-workers that have no idea about the build quality of TP's? They all think Dell's and HP's look so pretty and don't care about case integrity, etc.. They like the cute flashing lights on the XPS (sort of like the slow kid absolutely mesmorized by a disco ball).
It's not my job to talk them into getting a TP but it is really aggrivating to walk into work and see everyone on these huge 17" Toshiba's and HP's playing football. That's ALL they do and could care less about TP's.
I just have to keep showing them pics of the space shuttle interior and what's being used up there I guess...

I'd rather have a 3 year old IBM than a new Dell (or HP)...

Well
One of Art's Lemmas postulates: Without a lower class, we can't have an upper class.

Consumer class Dells/HPs work out fine so long as the laptops being moved about much.
Heck, so long as a laptop isnt being dropped, I feel my Dell is more robust than the thinkpads.
And its screen kicks [censored].

I see this trend mostly in apple funboys, especially that hippy style, etc... I've managed to care less. Except for the part of shaving my head.CRSO wrote: They all think Dell's and HP's look so pretty and don't care about case integrity, etc.. They are laptops, and they are supposed to be mobile, for heaven's sake! If I am going to work on them at a desk all day without moving them, I'd reather get a powerful and cheaper desktop.wearetheborg wrote: Consumer class Dells/HPs work out fine so long as the laptops being moved about much.

I have shown that IBM Desktops are within a 50 to 100 band with other competitive *commercial* units with comparable warranty, service and features. I point out that service and support is local to Toronto (not mail order or some far off place).CRSO wrote:How, please give me some tips...jdhurst wrote:I have converted clients from Dell and other laptops to IBM ThinkPads and have only every received appreciation. ... I purchased a number of ThinkPad T30's just before T4x's came out. I got a good price and that was 4 years ago. Those T30's are still going strong.
In short, pricing is competitive with *commercial* units and service is local. Most business people grasp this instantly. ... JDH
I go to Morrisville State College - it's a Thinkpad University (or so it says).
I've seen the Thinkpads go through some interesting things here, such as walking around with the laptop running, dropping it, playing it in a backpack while walking across campus and of course they also do some intense gaming.
They do put up with a lot.
But for me, my laptop goes to every class and serves as my gaming rig since I kinda had to turn my gaming computer (which wasn't that great) into my server since that died.

my girlfriend thinks that my Thinkpad is boring because it's all black and doesn't have all these things her Dell Inspiron 6000 have (nothing really other than a SD reader slot). I say yeah, yours is only like almost 1yr old and it's already looking beat up, mine is a few years old and looks newer than hers. The color is starting to fade on her palmrests to white. The hinges are wobbly. I say we'll see how that goes in 2008 after it's been thru another year of school and then we'll talk.
