EEE PC Pre-Order
Looks like someone at eeetalk.com found a site taking pre-orders:
http://www.citrusmicro.com/webdocs/Items/Details683.cfm
The prices are a bit higher than I'd like, but I'd still be pretty tempted to buy one. Anyone else?

Nice find Chris. I am very much tempted as well.
Does anyone remember which parts of the system can be upgraded? What are the maximum upgrades that these machines can support?

It would be wonderful if the flash drive and RAM could be upgraded. We'll just have to find an early adapter who wouldn't mind opening up his new possession (probably Ars Technica) to find out for sure.
I just noticed that the listed weight is 1.96 lbs. I seem to recall earlier statements about weight being in the 2.2 lbs area. With a four cell battery, this machine looks better all of the time...

a little more than the OLPC
It is a little more than a OLPC . http://www.laptop.org The OL PC goes on sale on 11-12-2007 where one buys one for oneself and one to be given to a child in a third world country. The prices is $400 (for two). I am tempted by both the EEE PC and the OLPC.

Re: a little more than the OLPC
Buying an OLPC would give a warm fuzzy feeling inside, but I would much rather be seen in public with an EEE.BigWarpGuy wrote:It is a little more than a OLPC . http://www.laptop.org The OL PC goes on sale on 11-12-2007 where one buys one for oneself and one to be given to a child in a third world country. Of course, maybe women would rather see that I'm charitable?

If you're interested in how it looks inside, in a Russian review they took it apart.

I ran it through Google Translator - it's a bit of a rough read, but adds some sort of wording to the pictures:elite-elitist wrote:If you're interested in how it looks inside, in a Russian review they took it apart.

Re: a little more than the OLPC
I second that. If it wasn't for the looks of OLPC being too close to the clamshell Apple iBooks from the years past, I would definitely reserve at least one as well. The Spirit of X21 wrote: Buying an OLPC would give a warm fuzzy feeling inside, but I would much rather be seen in public with an EEE.

From the pictures on that Russian site, it looks like the RAM and flash drive are soldered onto the motherboard. That's said to hear, but I'm sure that such decisions keep the cost of the machine down.
Does anyone think that it's worth paying $140 more in order to get 512MB RAM and 4GB drive as opposed to 256MB and 2GB?

I remember reading somewhere else in the preview article about soldered RAM and flash memory as well. I guess these pictures and review just confirm the rumor. The Spirit of X21 wrote:From the pictures on that Russian site, it looks like the RAM and flash drive are soldered onto the motherboard. Since the RAM and storage components don't seem like easily upgradeable I would perhaps be interested in the higher end model - better pay a little more once than to regret not getting it later after running out of the memory with today's demanding applications and media requirements.

I clicked on the 'add to cart' but it does not show a per unit price. How can one pre-order one without it showing a price?

Me neither. 10" @ 1280x800 sounds perfect, so I'm willing to pay up to $700 for such a machine. I am attending a conference in San Diego with my HP nc2400, which has 12.1" 1280x800. Small and light (3.16 lbs with internal CDRW/DVD combo drive) enough to be carried for 8 hours in a row per day, but the 10" Eee would be even nicer.syedj wrote:How much was that? I can't recall.
