Fedex Ground Insurance - a scam ?
I just shipped a used laptop via fedex, declared value etc, and now I find out the maximum amount coverered is determined by some "Orion Blue Book" !!!
http://www.fedex.com/us/services/terms/ ... l#declared
Anyone have a problem collecting claims from Fedex ? Their "declared value" system is a scam.

Is this what you are referring to?FedEx wrote:Our liability for loss or damage to used electronic or computer equipment shall be limited to $100, unless a higher value is declared on the FedEx Ground Pick-Up Record and the applicable charges are paid. In those instances where the shipper declares a value in excess of $100, our liability shall be determined by the most recent edition of the Orion Blue Book series applicable to the specific item lost or damaged or the declared value, whichever is lower, but in no event will liability exceed the declared value.
My one fiasco with FedEx has been documented here:

I guess it was fortunate that my claim was not over $100.

I shipped via Fedex as I thought they were better than UPS.
Never again
I looked at the orion book, there isnt any mention of a T42P (only T42s). I'm now really scared.

I have had very good luck with Fed-Ex. I think they are better than UPS. Whether the insurance is a scam depends on how you look at it. I am sure the policy that they have is because people declare an outrageous value for some item that they ship. I guess it comes down to the fact that if you don't like the rules ship with someone else.
